So we've got
WinXP home, Retail/OEM (the install disks are different! you can't use an OEM key to install the OS from a retail CD!)
WinXP Pro, Retail, OEM, Coroprate. (again the difference is in the product key)
WinXP MCE. (only available OEM)
WinXP for the tablet PC, (I've only seen XP pro for tablets... don't know if there's a home version)
WinXP for PDA,
WinXP embedded (for thin clients)
WinXP 64 bit edition.. I think this is only available as XP pro but I've not looked into it.. and I think it might only be available as OEM, but again I'm not sure.
So, there you go, 10 or more variaties of windows XP.
diehardbiker65 said:That number one isn't true, it was IBM biggest mistake by offering Bill Gate blueprint to IBM PC for him to develop a DOS for IBM PC. Bill Gate bought Atari OS for $50k amd reprogrammed it to work with IBM PC So, he created with permission from IBM two DOS. So he found a way to create a true DOS and have two versions of DOS to begin with. He decided to keep one for himself which is now called MS-DOS and gave IBM the other DOS which IBM called PC-DOS. IBM thought that IBM is getting good deal, but it turned out to be bad deal in the end and IBM couldn't do anything about it.
I don't know about number 2
That number 3 was half right and half wrong. M$ didn't steal Netscapre. Just that Netscape was the "Stand-alone" company that makes a browser. But because M$ got other marketing stuff to go with. M$ was able to bundle the IE into Windows while Netscape couldn't do that. And when people buy PC, there is IE, why bother Netscape?
#4 and #5, well every businesses always find ways to make consumers happy. Weather it looks like stealing or not. If Apple, or Mozilla didn't patent their program then it is their fault for not protecting their ideas.
