I find this absolutely ridiculous to read that her family background is too brassy after seeing her Mother using chewing gum and greeting people saying "Pleased to meet you" instead of more proper etiquette words like "How do you do" to people etc!!
(oh well, I love using chewing gum every day, and recently received 20 packets of Big Red from my American friend lol)

PALACE insiders insisted Kate Middleton’s royal fling was always doomed—because her parents were thought too “common”.
They claimed that Prince Charles had the Middletons’ card marked after Kate’s mum Carole, a former air hostess, was spotted chewing gum throughout William’s passing-out parade at Sandhurst in December.
The 50-year-old blonde was standing next to her daughter as the world’s press looked on.
Carole, who comes from Durham mining stock, further annoyed the royals that day by failing to use the proper etiquette in addressing the Queen. Instead of the required “Hello ma’am” she greeted the monarch with a cheerful “Pleased to meet you.”
An insider said: “Charles and the family always had their doubts about the Middletons but that day their worst fears were confirmed.
“They especially took against Carole who just didn’t have a clue how to behave in such a high-profile situation.
“There is also a feeling that she is brassy and forward and has taken a bit too much advantage of her royal connections through her daughter. The worry was that Carole was pushing Kate to get her feet under the Windsor table. For all the royal family’s attempts to convince the world that they’re becoming more down to earth they are, at the end of the day, the most terrible snobs.”
But, while lacking toff credentials, money has never been a problem for Carole and husband Michael, another ex-flight attendant.
They run a successful mail-order business supplying children’s parties and live comfortably in a £1 million modern five-bedroom house in Bucklebury, near Newbury—just 33 miles and several snooty worlds away from Windsor Castle. By Polly Graham
