Why not kill all great white sharks?

A very controversial question I know. But people are getting horribly killed every year - why not just get rid of this hazard once and for all?
To all vegans: by killing one single shark, we would save on average 100 other marine animals (which would have been killed by the shark).

A related question: would you exterminate all mosquitoes on this planet, knowing that millions of people are dying of Malaria every year?

List of motor vehicle deaths in U.S. by year - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

More people dies from auto accidents per year so should there be a law against people driving cars??

And there is spraying for mosquitoes happening every year to try and kill them all off and this one reason the bats are dying. The less bats we have the more mosquitoes we'll have. man is his own worst enemy , we'll end up killing our self in the long run.

to exterminate a species would means either other species would thrive unchecked or there will be a new species that would be far worse.

our ecosystem is already being damaged on daily basis and so far... it's not going too well for humanity

You can't unbalance the food system unless you have a way to keep it in check. For example, an explosion in the seal population(lack of sharks) would allow them to eat the fish you usually get at a local restaurant.

In fact, shark attacks are rare. Highly publicized, yes, but rare. We are not their primary food.

Just be careful for what you wish for. One person may wish that all sharks are gone. Someone else may wish all chincillas were gone.

Tread carefully here.

Never wish for an elimination of a species but on the other hand, I wouldnt mind if bed bugs were eliminated from this planet.

Interesting story. Up here on the Northern East Coast if you see a roach in a restaurant your meal is on the house. The restaurants use exterminator companies who pay in the event of botched work. When I visited South Carolina, two years ago, it was during the tail end of a hurricane. I took a woman I was seeing to a restaurant and spotted a big roach. I told the staff about it and they did pay for the meal. The roach wasn't killed, but later my girlfriend said, "They are only trying to survive", it really made an impression on me. It was a good vacation and no bugs were killed. I was very thankful.

For the same reason that wolves exist: they keep the balance of nature. People are not getting horribly killed every year, we just have news reporters now...and believe it or not, you have more chance to be hit by lightning than to be attacked by a shark. Most attacks are mistaken identity - the sharks can't see as they move in to bite. It doesn't help that people move into their area and if you like to swim in their playground, be prepared. Humans don't have the right to decide who lives and who dies and who deserves to be here. God has a purpose for every species and just because you don't get it, doesn't give you the right to eliminate them. Remember the Nazis? Same idea. Sharks have a right to exist; they are the only creature to survive the age of the dinosaur and they're beautiful, awesome and fearsome creatures that should be protected. What would be next on your hit list? Polar Bears? Panthers, Lions, Elephants?

There's a huge difference between the roaches you see up North, those are usually german cock roaches that will infest a house, business whatever and that big ass roach you saw down here in SC. Some residents will actually argue with you over whether or not it is a roach. I've been in two arguments, they'll insist they are waterbugs or palmettos bugs. I'm all you can call them whatever the hell you want, but they're still American cockroaches. Yeah I freaked out the first time I saw one when I moved here and googled the shit outta em. They live outside, but they will come inside to look for food/water, but they will not infest it. Even if one lays eggs inside, when they grow they'll leave. We do get german cockroaches here, but if it was BIG it was a American. But yeah they can all die, fine by me. I learned quickly not to kill them, they are way to big and juicey squishy, catch em and toss em out.

You're more likely to die at the beach from a vending machine falling on you than by a shark attack. So no, that would be silly, and has been mentioned throw the whole ecosystem out of wack. Mosquitos can go though, I don't care what other species die because of it, it would be totally worth it!!

oh and just so everyone knows.....not long after I moved here I was at the beach and had a chat with a marine biology student. She told me there are 3 rules to follow that will greatly reduce your chances of getting bit by a shark.

1. Don't swim at dawn or dusk. That increases the chances that the shark will mistake you for something it would normally eat. No one is ever "eaten" by a shark, they might bite, but then go "blech a human and swin away". You'd die from the would, not because you were "injested".

2. Don't swim by a peir. People often fish off peirs, so there's bait in the water and the sharks are feeding. You just don't want to be by feeding sharks. ALso occasionally I will see someone fishing from the shore, this pisses me off. For one thing they've got that line and hook in the water by people and kids playing in the water and could be hurt. Plus they are endangering the swimmers with an increased chance of shark bites. Whenever i see someone do that I make me and my kids move further down the beach.

3. Don't pee in the water. I guess that can attract them? I don't know, I didn't ask I just say ok.

more people die as result of donky kicks and coconuts falling on people head

Keep the Sharks...but eliminate the Roaches and the FLEAS !....I don't have any Roaches and I live in Florida where they are rampant...but have an exterminator spray every month....as for Fleas...had a battle with them not too long ago...a friend brought her Dog over and he had Fleas, unbeknowest to me!....My Cat was scratching, even tho' he had Advantage...

I learned (from the exterminator) how to get rid of fleas...he sprayed...and told me to vacuum my house every other day...that would suck up the eggs....and change the vacuum bag each time also. Vacuum the furniture, and Pet bedding also.....It worked for me, and now both my Pets are on Comfortis.

Whenever I see stray dogs & cats, I feel so bad for them, knowing they have to deal with Fleas every day. I also learned (from my Pet Groomer) that Dawn w/bleach or Ivory dish soap would kill any fleas on ur Pets....Just have to make sure you rinse them very well after bathing.....It can dry out ur Pet's skin, so that is why I use a special shampoo for my Pomperanian as she has dry skin...but thankfully, no Fleas!

Those are good. Another is to ibe mindful of sandbars. During lower tides (especially in the Gulf) sharks will get stuck between sandbars without food and this can make them aggressive.

what ivory dish soap?i buy this flea stuff i do house twice a year thought of fleas orrible...i understand you have lots of bed bugs in states that awful.i bought a little hand hoover that got ultra violet light on it it zaps any unwanted little suckers

I'm for keeping the sharks, the ocean is their home. It's our responsibility to protect ourselves if we're in their territory.

Roaches are easy to get rid of if they are in your home. Bed bug are not. It took me 6 freaking months to finally get rid of them. I would rather have roaches over these damn bugs that feed on people!
