Why I got in trouble:

This is a little off topic but I have wanted to mention this for the longest time now. Vampy, no offense, but it seems to me that, no matter what the topic, subject, thread is about re the deaf, deafness, deaf culture, etc that it is pretty much only as a last resort that you support the deaf view. Was NTID THAT bad? Lol...
Check your PM. :)

i dont have anything to add other than it was rather condescending, youd think an audiologist would know better

That's a good plan... follow the chain of command. Since you can't get through with those people individually, talk to their boss. Who would that be? Is there a chairperson or is it actually the principal?

According to my school district, I'm supposed to report to the principal, and the principal is the one who jumped all over me for saying anything.

I finally got to speak with the principal about the response...the principal is now a little bit more understanding about where I was coming from. I now have the principal's full support. So things are better between my boss and I - but it will be at the end of the week before I see if others will respect my request to speak with me directly.

Well, there you go. You at least have been able to get your principal's support. I hope that will result in a chnge in behavior for the others.

That's good.

It was probably a misunderstanding. I'm glad it worked out. :)

ALL of them told her that it was too hard to communicate with them (too much time to write back and forth or to get her to interpret.
Again for the lurkers, out there deafbajagirl was primarily ORAL. (with good oral skills) She was ALSO high acheiving oral.........and yet her coworkers STILL have trouble understanding her. Maybe just having oral skills might not help your kid as much as those experts and oral teachers think!
Back on topic..............Deafbajagirl, I'd contact your state's senator...Also NAD, and Disabilty advocacy organizations.

Please bear with me here, never having been involved in the deaf community there is a lot I dont know about how things work.

Dont start bashing me for being off topic, I am just trying to get my head around this interpreter/aide thing, always having gone it alone its a new one to me.

Can someone tell me if I have understood this right.........you have a deaf teacher who teaches the class...and she has an aide who interprets to everyone else for her...is that right. So in efffect there are two persons on the payrole to achieve to job of one.

Having said that the audiologist should be:rl:.....anyone who works with the deaf should have more brains than that.

Deafbajagal, I'm like you about firing off a note to discuss unprofessional behavior during a class. It's unconscionable behavior that undermines a teacher's effectiveness. But I learned the hard way to go through the principal or department head.

With all the justification for being wronged first, I'm hoping your principal will look on the way you handled things as the lesser evil.

In the '90s, after some college staff complained how I'd misunderstood verbal messages, I was able to invoke ADA and the department head okayed for me to ask that all messages to be sent to me via e-mail or by note. Maybe you can ask for something similar.

About BCC: Unless I misunderstood what was being explained, blind carbon copies to others about private matters still violate confidentiality. They are just sneaker ways to do it.

The job of the aide is not to be an interpreter. The job of the aide is to assist the teacher with the chidlren, making materials, or taking over the class when the teacher has a meeting.

The aide is not the interpreter - but will sign for me at times but not for meetings or anything like that...intercom annoucements, incoming phone calls, etc. For formal interpreting assignments I get a qualified, certified interpreter (IEP meeting, parent conferences, etc.).

Here's the irony of the situation. They say its too hard to talk to you because they don't know sign. You make it easy by putting it in an email, and they get mad because you made it easy for them! This is a clear cut case of discrimination, and refusal to provide the accommodations that allow you to effectively do your job that they hired you to do.

Yep. Sucks, doesn't it?

Thanks for that info Shel and deafbajagal
