Why do people smoke?

Believe it or not....

IT IS HARD to quit smokes once you are addictive to it...

there's no medical cure for these smokers to quit right away.. It has to be up to them to quit it on their own, of course sciences and doctors do have some "nictone" helper ( pills, patch, gum, inhaler) they are also nictones.. Anyway

Angel, DOn't worry about that you shouldn't post in here but it is good that You did admit that it is hard to quit.. Believe it or not I used to smoke 3 to 4 pack a day and I QUIT almost 3 years ago on March 14...

Hints for Angel, Just do what you believe in for yourself, and be ready for yourself if you are ready to quit (im not saying now but in future).. Once you are ready, you know where to find your friends and your BESTFRIEND/Boyfriend (RoadRunner) i am sure he will be there for you too..

for me.. My husband and I planned to quit together on May 13, (the day after our wedding anniversary on May 12) but... My body I guess my body got so Fed up and I quit that morning on March 14, while waiting for school bus to arrive I had 3 inhale then puff all out was wondering what was that NASTY taste ? nah, I must be dreaming so I did took the 3rd one realized it was really NASTY I threw it on my driveway and said Fuck it.... Never smoke since them. DO i have tempt to smoke again ? no, my husband still smokes, I do get annyoyed when he smokes near me cuz of that nasty smell. I still am a smokefree now I am 2nd hand...

*smiling*...Thank you Wendy, I appreciate the nice comment you said above  , I can't believe you smoke 3 to 4 pack a day and you QUIT, I tell you this, you are one amazing and strong woman to quit smoking, I'm very proud of you really I am.....very impressed!!! I could use you as my helper here....

Thank you for the kind advice, I sure will use that and since you quit smoking I know I will too!! I think you are the person who I would think of when I do quit LOL...You just made my day! ;)

I am curious. If a person wants to quit smoking, why not just quit buying cigarettes? If you don't have cigarettes in your house, or car, or purse, etc., then you can't smoke, right?

Or spend the cig money for other reasons. Maybe put the cig money in a vacation account. That way you are not "quitting" or sacrificing smoking. Instead, it is a positive goal, like planning for a vacation.

Or maybe telling yourself, "I prefer to send this week's cig money to the tsunami victims." That is a good positive use for cig money, to do something special and helpful.

Also, smokers already are not allowed to smoke in certain work places, in planes, in public buildings, etc. If you want to quit, can you just imagine that there is a "No Smoking" sign every place you go? Like, "I can't smoke here; it is not allowed." Make your own smoking restrictions so you tell yourself, "No smoking allowed". Is that possible?

I am not saying smokers are bad people. I am saying that there is a better way to live without the ciggies. Healthier lungs and heart, brighter teeth, sweeter breath and hair, fresher clothing, fewer facial wrinkles, better taste buds, less coughing, cleaner house/car, and more money!
Well, I would say the same thing about people who consumes the conventional foods, junk foods, candies, fast foods, pop sodas, etc etc... Plus taking these conventional medicines.

They know it is not healthy... They knew it is not healthy yet they consume these foods and swallow these dangerous medicines anyway. All in all, cigs, conventional medicines and fast foods issue are about same.

In fact, many people don't realize that they are controlled by their bad habits or/and lack of knowledges.

Psychology does wonders, doesn't it?

Anyway I agree with you about quitting issue. I formerly addicted to soda pop, alcohol (ex-AA) and fast foods but I went cold turkey several years ago and I realize that I feel much better and more energy than before... In the end, I beat it. I simply refuse to let the bad habits or lack of knowledges control my life.

'cold turkey' method always work.

Yes, I know it´s hard for smokers to quit their smoke habits. My friends and family said the same as you, too.

See my post over my Dad and brother. They admitted that it´s harder to quit but they CAN made it.

My hubby quit smoke last April 2004. The reason he quit because they took few cigarettes off in the cigarette box and plus price go up. Before that 20 cigarettes WAS in the box and cost €3.00 ($3.94). Now 17 cigarettes cost now €5.00 ($6.56), that´s why my hubby quit with his strong willing.

Yeah Magatsu

I saw on Divorce Court, the tv show,
the man divorced his wife because she is addicted to candy.
She ate the whole bag of candies a day!!!!

She got candies in her car, at work, at home....

She is fat..... and dentist pulled out 8 teeth out of her mouth...
because it was rotten with plague and cavities.

And she is still eating candies....
and her ex husband can't stand it anymore.

Of course, people can't go "cold turkey" on all food because people need to eat. :) But they can avoid the foods and places that are bad for them. For example, do not enter fast food places that serve the tempting foods. Do not buy candy and soda at the grocery store. Then you don't have to worry about being tempted by the bad foods in your house if you don't buy them in the first place.

It might not be safe to go "cold turkey" on prescription meds, so a person should check with a doctor first.

Point taken.

Ah yeah, I forget about doctor's permission. My bad. Thanks for adding that one. I cannot believe that I forget about that one myself...

Get rid of all the ashtray that are outside....

And hired teenagers or college students to stay in car or stand outside
to spot people who throw ciggy on sidewalk or street and fine them $20.

THat will stop smokers quit smoking.

Good idea?

1. It isn't sexy.
2. It isn't cool.
3. It doesn't taste great.
4. It isn't good for your health.
5. It is too expensive.

So why people smoke?

They only make People who own the Tobacco companies RICH!!!

It is an annoying habits... I can't stand it be around people who smoke.
And plus it polluted the place, street and sidewalk. And smell awful. And also it is ugly looking.

YOu guys complained about the high gas price, but you guys rather
buy cigarettes anyway.

DOn't you guys afraid of getting lung cancer.
I know some people who smoke a lonnnnng time, live longer.
But there are some people who weren't or aren't lucky.

That is why I don't want boyfriend who are smokers and
I don't want friends who smoke either...

Because I don't want to suffer second hand smoke.
My cousin in California is suffering stage 5 cancer, she
lived with her father who was a smoker.

So anyway... I want to live longer and healthier.

I agree smoke is bad for you but we forgot something. There is so many things are bad for us alike pollution our air, land and water. Bush run our country and support big corprations to mess up our air, land and water. Republicans does not care except $$$$ in their pocket. TTT, since ur voted for Bush, ur vote for Tobacco companies.

So if you want to live longer and healthier, clean air, water and land first.

My father died of lung cancer and he was a non-smoker. Something else killed him.

ok

yeah it is true we need to cut back....
we don't need chemical in our food...
because everybody got cars, planes and stuff like that...
And we don't need chemical which make our food stop spoiling.

I don't know why we need hydrogenated soybean in tortillas.
And Niacin, thiamine mononitrate, and stuff in crackers.
Coloring, polysorbate, and stuff in sweet cauliflower in a jar.
And fragrance in lotion.

Mails can get delivered the next day.
And I don't know why they can't delivered foods the next day
in the stores.

And you can make your own lotion, only need a little water, sunflower
seed oil, soybean, oat, corn oil, alcohol, and then mix them all together.
And use it. Don't need all of those chemical, ugh.
Or just use vaseline or cocoa butter, it is good.

And we don't need all of those bleach, just use baking soda, that will help clean house

Fine, I'll write to the companies, and tell them to cut back some
harmful chemical that we don't need. And tell them to use natural ingredients in our foods

I started smoking when I turned 17 - it was due to peer pressure at school...wish I never did, but...it happened. I've been struggling with trying to quit smoking. It's no easy feat. :(

Wow, I didn't know that Wendy, I never had a problem like that while smoking, I guess it happens to some people not all of them who are smokers...Smoking helps me relax even when I have so much on my plate for me to handle, so I smoke just to keep me calm and dealing with it ....

I know it not an excuess for this, as I know it is harm for my healthful and that is a reason why I am planning on quitting ;)
