Why Deaf use Clapping or Hands Flying??

True! I agree with Jack about clappin' hands to show impressive rather than "flyin'" hands.

I would rather clappin' hands if, I were in their shoes. :)

I saw that before. I think lots of people don't like the change to hands flying.

i still do clappings hand since i was a kid. i love to hear the loudest clapping hands.

I quite recently saw a video on youtube about a deaf gymnast girl and her friends (in order to courage her) use flying hands. I didn't know about that before.

I guess people should use whatever they are comfortable with. :D

I know this isn't a video thread but I still felt like sharing what I am talking about (please don't be mad) :D
Since I love gymnastics and have been a gymnast myself I was pretty much amazed when watching it!

I've always known about the hands flying thing. I think I learned about that when I went to RIT.

I have seen most deafies use that flyin' hands everywhere. I think I started to learn 'em from gally.

its doesnt matters for deaf people would clapping or hands flapping its would chose it!!!!

im been hands flapping at my old school but i dont using anymores i know im deaf also i can both.

I had never heard / seen about the hand flying thing... When I watched the video it made me smile because I thought it was a nice way to support their team mate! Now I see that it isn't that unusual... which I didn't know :giggle:

I just figured that deaf / hoh people would clap their hands simply because that's the way it is...

Now I know! :D

I never did like flying hands, i always clap even though
some of my deafie friends do not. Thats ok, its their
choice. Its weird to me, thats all.

cheerleading girls using flying hands that were so hilarious.

I've always known about the Hand Flying thing since I was a little girl.

Although - I have to wonder where did Jack Barr (the v-logger) exactly get the source of saying the "Hand Flying Applause" was happening at the AG Bell Conference? I'm curious to see how he would be able to refute on that?

The AG Bell Hand Flying story is a "new" thing to me and that makes me question about it.

Same here, Jolie. What I've been led to believe all these years it that it came from France. Jack is so adamant in his beliefs, it looks like he will say anything. I think the Big D folks are marketing ASL wrongly by challenging Goliath. I would support them more if they would change their tactics instead of pouring so much money "camping out" next to AGB and protesting. Such a waste of time and talent....
