Does the man of the house carve the turkey in your house or woman? When I go to someone house the woman never carve the turkey , there seem to be a rule that men should carve the turkey , because at one time the man would hunt for the turkey and should have 'the honor' of carving it! I think this is odd that I never seen a woman carve a turkey!

My husband does. Not because he wants to, but because he is stronger. Plus he knows how to sharpen the knive, etc.

I think it is just because men have more upper body strength.

If I had to do it alone, I would probably just buy turkey breast slices.

I will buy a half turkey and carve it myself, and I sharpen my knives , I use to watch my dad sharpen the knive and do the way he did.

My Dad usually carves the meats in our house; be it turkey, ham, pork roast, chicken, ect.

I've always carved the Bird....but let my oldest son try it this year. He did pretty good.

What turkey?? (I'm a vegetarian!)

I think my mom carved it with electric knife. My dad might have carved before we got the electric knife.

Its tradition, the head of the home, which was the father, would have the honourable role of carving the meats. But it is a matter of choice in many homes today. However, we follow tradition. My husband carved the meat this year.

Whoever cooks the turkey carves it, my aunt carved it for Thanksgiving. This year, we didn't have turkey for Christmas. We ate tradtional Mexican food mmmm

Usually one of us ladies cuts it. We are better with knives. Back in the hills, the men would hunt, but bring it home for the women to clean and cook. I learned to cut and carve meat then and taught my daughters.
The fellows at our house do try to cut the meats but they usually do not do as nice a job as the steady handed girls.

We say whoever cooks it carves it. Since I smoked the turkey this year, I cut that sucker up. my mom's knives aren't the sharpest, but I was still able to get some nice slices.

I pay someone to carve it. (seriously)

You are so funny..laughing..thanks I needed that. Since my brother moved in to help take care of me (darn brain)..lol,,he made ham..I dont eat much
so he had some friends over and darn they ate the entire giant baked ham..everyone cut off what they wanted....I had..laughing..soup..UGH!

When my family gets together, if it's my parents, my dad is the one who carves the meat.

When my sister and my BIL is the host, BIL does the carving.

I carve meat in my own house. I've taught myself how to butcher chicken and I'm currently learning how to debone other parts of chicken beside the breasts.

Me too! :cool2:

We went to my husband's brother's house. No bird this time. He made two pans of mostaccioli; one with meat, one with no meat (all for me!!!). Other than that it was just a nice salad and bread & butter.

Plenty to eat, uncluttered table. Very nicely uncomplicated.

I was at my daughter mother in law house for Christmas and and we had ham , turkey breast and lasagna. The mother in law boyfriend was a head of table but he was too busy stuffing his face with lasagna to cut the turkey for people that wanted it . I finally asked who was cutting the turkey and the mother in law said she was not going to cut it ! My daughter's husband did not want to cut the turkey ,but he finally gave and cut it! I was going to cut
it myself if no one else did! I was shocked that hostess who was the mother in law refused to cut the turkey for her guests! I guess she thought it was guy thing ! I really did not care who cut the damn turkey as long I ate!
My dad always cut the turkey and chicken. And there where 4 children and we all wanted the chicken drumstick! Dad had a special way of cutting the legs so we all got a drumstick so he could eat in peace!

I was a vegetarian for years. I was one in the 70's and there really was not a lot places you could get a vegetarian meal in a restaurant.

Before my uncle passed away, the family was always at my grandma's house and my uncle is the one who cut the turkey every year. So now the family goes seperate way and I dont know who cut the turkey. In my house it was my roommate who cut the turkey cuz she was the one who does all the cooking that day and no one help her. It was only 6 ppl in the house. I missed my grandma's house cuz there would be about 40 to 50 ppl in the house and that was fun.

Since I got married - I have been the one to do it. Before that, I never ate turkey, but my father did. Hubby is not coordinated enough to handle cutting hot dogs, much less carving a turkey. I will be teaching my son for the next turkey dinner.
