Which TTY works best with cell phone/BlackBerry/SideKick?

Hey, after a previous discussion asking about TTYs and cell phones/ BlackBerry/SideKick, I have found only Ultratec Compact/C TTY and Ameriphone Digital Q90 TTY.

Which one works best with the cell phone/Blackberry/Sidekick for those times one really needs a TTY instead of IM or text messaging (Canada does not have IRS)?

Which one is better portability wise and is small that I can pop in my purse?
 
Blackberry and sidekick have TTY. I am using my blackberry now. I used to have SK before. It doesn't matter which the best work for you on your cellphone. You can pick a right one.

if you bring TTY with your blackberry or cellphones, other smartphones--If you are in canada now, if you are T-mobile customers, you will getting billed for international airtime roaming 49 cents with Long distance charge to United States.

If you are in Victoria, BC you are call to victoria local you will have to pay roaming airtime charge with no long distance charge but if you call to another city you will be charge roaming airtime plus long distance charge.

If you have an unlocked GSM blackberry or cellular phone you can buy Prepaid SIM card while you are visit in canada or if you stay longer in canada you can buy a sim card and to order month to month canadian cellular service for cheaper and you will get canadian phone number. if you want to leave canada then you can cancel service then you can your original SIM card in your home carrier.

Canada does not have Internet Relay Service... but you can use traditional Canadian's Relay Service you can dial 711 you will be billed airtime and international or canadian long distance may apply depend on canadian's cellphone provider. if you want to make long distance call to US you need to buy a cheapest prepaid long distance calling card.

if you don't want expensive roaming or long distance charge or even prepaid airtime charge through cellular phone in canada , then you can buy a cheapest prepaid calling card through any landline phone but when you using public pay-phone and some calling card will be deduced for pay-phone surcharge.


If you bring your own laptop or PDA with WiFi built-in you can search for FREE Wi-Fi hotspot or pay WiFi available even if you have Boingo or Wayport or T-mobile hotspot members to WiFi roaming in Canada.

Sidekick didn't work that well. Blackberry is.
 
Omg, that's how far behind the tech stuff I am! I didn't even know BB had a TTY option that I could call 711 and use the BB like a TTY! Well I was so excited my cell-phone addict (she doesn't have a BB, just a regular teeny little cell phone) and I went over to the nearest Rogers store. Oh yes, yes, such a beautiful BB, the BB Curve 8310 in deep red (black keys with white lettering easier for me to read than silver keys with black writing). $199 with package, 3-year contract. I was all ready to plunk down my credit card when my friend told me to settle down and we'll go through the wireless voice plans to figure out which package works for me considering I do a lot of phoning and emaling every day all day.

Then reality washed over me like a cold shower. The cheapest (believe me I haggled with the sales clerk and my friend was with me to make sure I didn't miss anything) plan was $87.45 a month! How is that possible you say? Well the MY5 plan is $25.00 (the cheapest one), $30.00 for voice & data (voice in order to get SpinVox and data in order to check email and surf the Internet), $15.00 for SpinVox voice-to-text messaging, $10.00 for 2500 text messages (this was the part I was confused about), $6.95 monthly access fee, and 50 cents for 911 access fee.

Well, bugger, that's fricking expensive! Is that normal for you guys that use BB as a TTY and text message and also check your Hotmail or Gmail plus maybe check Internet for bus schedule or Google Map or whatever?

I am use T-Mobile Blackberry Pearl 8100

MOnthly fee for BB Internet $30 dollars a month, $15.00 per month for unlimited SMS and voice .20 cents a minute

Yeah, I always hear how much better the USA is than Canada when it comes to wireless plans. Too bad I don't live in the USA, but thanks for the information.
 
I find tty useless today, most friends I contact are on IM or email.

I can understand that a lot of deaf people don't use TTYs anymore, but since my job involves a lot of phoning I still need access to a TTY both at work and at home.
 
I just got myself an Ameriphone Q90D Digital Combination TTY/VCO with Text Answering Machine but I don't really understand how to use it. I have never use one before, can anyone help me on this?
