hello rachael,

nice to meet to you!! :D

welcome to AD

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. If you are from Ireland, it is simple to say that you are interest in Ireland Sign language or like one of posters here say it is Irish Sign Language. I have never been to Ireland so I don't know. I do hope you will meet some of the Irish ADers who will tell you about Irish Sign Language.

Enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. See you around here.

I'd recommend contacting your local Irish Deaf community - or organizations for the Deaf as they will be able to point you in the right direction as far as which Sign Language to learn and where you can go to learn it !

Here are a few websites I came across that may be helpful for you

IrishDeaf.com

DeafHear.ie

(here is a link to contacts/events in Kilkenny Ireland)

Irish Deaf Society

Northern Ireland Deaf Youth Association

I hope these might help get you started.

It's very important that you (if at all possible) learn Sign Language from a native user (someone who's first language is Sign Language) and in person - not online as that way the person teaching you can make sure that you are doing everything correctly every step of the way :)

yeah i thought that too but i wanted to learn the most common used sign language but im not sure if there is one, to be honest i want too learn it so maybe i could volunteer in the hospital as a rep or somethin for deaf people.

thank you everyone for your reply's, its very helpfull info : )

Welcome to AD and you will benefit greatly in learning a sign language.
How, which one??? Well, there is no universal sign language and I am guessing that where you are most to the deaf use the British signs.
this is not alot different from American sign language but unless you are planning to travel the world, you should learn and use your local population's signs. Good luck and have fun learning.
