When LED stoplights are dangerous in cold weather situations

I'm still not seeing it. Never seen an intersection on highway.

There's even a railroad crossing on it.

Right now, most of the highway are 4 lanes, meaning two lanes per way. Toward Welland, it changes into two way freeway, but it's still the highway.

Dont drive in snowy conditions..

Sometimes you have to depending on road and weather conditions. Truckers face this problem alot as my step Dad told me. It's better to wait it out than to continue driving. Or not drive at all to begin with.

there you go. an advice that all drivers should have taken. blame the human errors, not traffic signal with LED

that's the type I have to cross every morning for our son's school. it's terrible whenever there is a power outrage. (oh and the speed limit is 45-55 depending on the area)

highways, freeways, expressways, interstates - they're all the same thing!

Yes, that is a highway. Although you are probably thinking of freeways.

yup. It's freeway to me and highway is just one long uninterrupted road (no intersection, no railroad, nothing) usually with concrete barriers in between. Highway is usually belies on state's responsibility and state police while freeway is locally-maintained.

you have my sympathy. it's always dangerous to cross it because it's wide and there's too many rooms of errors even with working traffic signal. Distracted/Drunk drivers is the biggest issue.

you can drive at a high speed on all of these things. i see them on the same level as coke, soda, pop, cola... they're all synonyms for each other. :dunno:

clever response

It doesn't matter, you are to stop at the intersection if you are unable to see the traffic lights.
I agree.

If you come to an intersection with traffic lights that don't seem to be working, then treat it as a red flashing light or a stop sign.

Correct, provided that you can see the intersection you're approaching and can see the stoplights (w/o the working lights). Any blackened stoplights are to be treated as a stop sign. The same for intersection with stop signs, however, people have died because no stop signs to warn people of an intersection until it's too late. I can see that scenario happen when you have stoplights completely encrusted and caked with snow and not know there is an intersection until it's too late.

<--- here's a better picture what I have to deal with every morning. You really can't yield because so much traffic lanes (and lot of traffics). all you can do is wait for the police to guide the traffic. There are ALOT of these type of intersection where I live.

there are... you know... visual indicator like buildings and light poles. otherwise... you are either stupid enough to drive in this weather or too stupid to be a driver :dunno:

ah - it's usually called a "large intersection" but it's still not a highway. That kind of road you see is usually the major road where it usually have a high rate of accidents of all kinds during all seasons.

I've always thought highway were 4 lanes that usually 45-55 (because it goes uninterrupted for alittle while) ... and most of these traffics were going on that speed.
