When hearie person said to you something and didn't know you're Ddeaf/Hhoh....

happens to me all the time too. they would go oh never mind or just walked away. i never bother with those strangers... but i do get annoyed if that person was someone i already knew and has communicated with me before.. and gave up in middle of the conversation.

ever tried to hold a conversation with a hearing person and another hearing person came by... and suddenly the hearing person u were talking to decided to ignore you in middle of the sentence to respond to 2nd hearing person?

that ALWAYS happens to me when i was speaking... or when hearing person was trying to speak to me then someone decided to talk to hearing person and my conversation paused for that hearing person completely. *growls* that is really popular with my family lol.

i HATE that. it seems like every time i'm in the middle of a good conversation with a hearie, our conversation is cut short by another hearie, phone ringing, etc.

<warning: current mood ---> irritated>

"Never mind" has to be the most hated phrase in the deaf community. I've heard it more times than I care to remember.

oh i know how that goes! always drives me crazy especially when that person was talking and got cut off by other person. i was like.. come on.. what are u gonna say next? the worst part is that im too polite to make noises about it. *growls*

I agree. Then again, if it's something that was said in class and a classmate you asked for clarification says it, then you don't get it, then they say, "never mind." Okay, I'll never mind and let you have the joke to yourself, as it's not worth my time to understand.

so am i. i just let the two hearies talk amongst themselves (or the hearie i'm talking to answer the phone) while i become more and more irritated. maybe one of these days i'll be assertive enough to say something. :giggle:

Ive had that happen too, it feels almost like the conversation we were having as a hoh/deaf-hearing conversation is less important than the hearing-hearing conversation. But I suppose the same goes for a hearing person who is with a group of deaf people. The deaf-hearing conversation is trumped by the deaf-deaf conversation. I think it may be due to the fact that a hearing person better relates to a hearing person just as a deaf person better relates to a deaf person? Am I making sense or do I need to get some sleep?

You are making perfect sense so you might be able to put off going to sleep for a short while. :)

I wish I could but it's 9:18 pm here, I still haven't given my DD a bath and I have to be up at 4:30 am.

i still remember the first time a hearie told me "nevermind." it was my dad. being just recent deaf, he was talking and i was trying to read his lips and after the third time i asked him to repeat himself, he said "nevermind" and walked away. it was actually kinda heartbreaking. ever since then i resented the word.

I'm sorry, I can't imagine that. :(
I don't think I've ever said "nevermind" and I'm pretty sure after reading this that I'll try really hard not to ever do it. but then again I think I have more patience than some people.

ihate when ppl do that too..."oh nevermind" or "its ok forget it"

I was at a competition last weekend for cheerleading and this girl must have kept saying excuse me and then she pushed me and one of my team members caught my attention and so i moved out of the way and the girl was like I SAID EXCUSE ME...and i was like IM DEAF and i didn't feel bad at all for getting pissed off ..there was no need for her to be so rude..and i had my hearing aid on and it was clearly visible...i cant wait til i get my 2 new ones so maybe i could hear better plus ppl will notice more..

thanx, it means alot. but i know hearies can become impatient just like deafies can. im a recent deafie, and i noticed that my patience level went way down, but im working on getting it back up. im a really nice guy, just not too nice. :D

you're welcome :). yes, but you have reason behind not being as patient. I can imagine it is frustrating to have to learn a whole new way of communication so suddenly.

yeah, but i was taught that even though u have a reason to be whatever, doesn't give u the right to be. you still have to consider other ppl. just a way of life.
i know i've been impatient lately tho, i've snapped at some ppl but i did apologize almost second-naturally, saying "sorry, i'm deaf" but it still doesn't give me right to complain. complaining gets u nowhere. actions is what counts. and that's what i'm doing. taking action. :D

well that makes sense. I've never looked at it that way. I just try not to snap at people, but sometimes you have a bad day. I try to apologize as soon as I can. I don't like it when people are mad at me or if I offend people without meaning to. I try to be a pretty peaceful person.
good to hear that you're doing something about it :)
