When donating stuff..

Usually I donate anything that comes out of my closet, as long as its not in bad conditions. And sometimes i buy clothes from stores and donate them as new.
But what would be consider "too old" to donate? Probably a shirt wiht holes is not a good shirt to donate. But then how to know what is appropriate to donate? And do you donate stuff other than clothes, maybe food or toys?
 
Is this too old to donate? It's practically brand new.. *Cough* from the 80's *cough* :p

Anything that's worn out or stained I'd trash.

Fashion comes back, always.

Maybe not stuff with the date on it? I have a pair of shorts that day 2003 across the butt. Yes I keep my clothes that long. Don't judge me.
 
Oh I have older lol

I have jacket/shirt I don't know what it is I put it on the top half of my body lol I haven't worn in it forever. I've had it since I was 16. It's 23 years old.

Wait I did wear a few months ago when we picked up my sister from the airport. I wore it special for her because she thinks its hideous. Think I even have a pic......
 
There it is my 23 year old whatever it is. That I hang onto because of.....reasons. I don't know I don't wear it lol

Since we're talking old shirts, I have two from 2001 and 2004, so no judgment for me. :D
 
When your talking about donating clothes if its in good condition regardless of age I'll donate it ... if not I'll toss it ... but have donated a lot more than clothes ... when my brother and I quit racing I donated a truck load of tools and racing stuff I didn't want to be bothered with selling ... I've never donated junk but a lot do and Goodwill will take anything you give them ... since The Salvation Army thrift store moved out of town if I have to I'll take it to Goodwill but usually give it to a friend that's a preacher for the homeless(clothes) ... had a 9 foot artificial Christmas tree I needed to get rid of so I finally loaded it up and took it to Goodwill yesterday ... the girl was trying to pull it off the trailer even before I got the straps off...
 
Furniture we usually go down the list of family members to see if anyone wants it first. We seem to give away really good stuff. We had a whole room of oak bedroom furniture that we just gave to Goodwill. I desperately need to clean out my master bedroom closet. Haven't warn most of those clothes in years. I have a ton of work clothes and shoes that need to go and I really need to give away purses. Purses use to be my guilty pleasure. Now I consider myself as very simplistic.....comes with age I believe. Less stuff=less dusting.

One thing I do not donate is underwear:-(
 
Eww, yes. I have been in thrift stores in the past when making donations and have seen underwear up on the racks.... :shock: I would never donate nor buy used underwear! :barf:

However, style wise, you never know what someone might find as fashionable just because you might not anymore. Plus, some people just need cloths, they don't care what it looks like.
 
If shirts have a lot of tears, it would be better to use it for rags.

As for age, it won't matter as long as it's in a good condition. I've seen a lot of old jerseys and wonder why people would still want them. Remember Carson Palmer's Bengals jersey? I love seeing what outdated jerseys hit shelves every time I shop at thrift stores.
 
I've never bought clothes from any thrift store but have bought furniture from Goodwill. Was in there once and noticed a row of suit jackets though and just looked at those ... one had a bunch of funeral home remembrance papers from peoples funerals. Figured it was some old man's jacket that passed away and his family donated his stuff and those were from the funerals he had attended.
 
As long as the clothing is in good condition I donate it. If they don't want it they'll get rid of it. Style doesn't matter. There's no telling what styles might appeal to other people. Also, some people buy thrift store clothing for theatrical costumes or disposable work clothes. TCS buys old clothes to wear for when he's pressure washing houses or painting. Fancy gowns (bridesmaids, prom) can be cut down to make little girl princess gowns.
 
If the clothes are too old and wore out they can recycle or sold to other others that use the fabric . Schools are starting to take donations of clothes to raise money . They have a bin next to school so people can drop of items they do not want anymore. My daughter was telling that her daughter's school made $2,000 doing this. I think it's a damn shame that schools in USA have to collect secondhand clothes to raise $$$ to run the school. A lot of place do not take toys anymore b/c they can't keep up with all the recalls , Goodwill's stop taking toys and baby playthings.
 
I didnt even know there was storea that sold used clothes. I usually take my clothes to kids on the other side of border i go to this idk how they are called in english "lejidos". And pass them around. But isnt underwear not very hygenic? And well when i do donate underwaer its all bought in a store..

There are all kind of stores that sell secondhand clothes that gently wore. There will some be new clothes that never been used , people forget them had them or it was given as a gift stuck in the back of the closet. We have a store that only sell things from the 50's and it's fun just going there with my granddaughter and daughter . My granddaughter saw a record and wanted it know what it was . LOL!!
 
Donate a lot of used clothing (no underclothes at all). Daughter gets a lot of pants and some tops at thrift stores. Never find anything to fit me there. I have donated kids books, games, family games, dishes, glassware and other things. I always pick up sheets, comforters and blankets. I clean them up with baking soda and vinegar in the washer and then again with just detergent, then use them with my dog sewing projects.
 
those "Frankie Says" shirts are getting back into fashion - which is Good News for us old people who have been wearing them for years.....

I still dress like it's 1993 anyway, so I expect my sartorial rennaisance to be just around the corner...hopefully - hey I'm still cool!!! :)
