It says 5:07 on my post but it is 2:07 up here in Alaska

I had lite turkey burger w/wheat bun and steamed broccolis and carrots last night at Islander's Hawaiian with friends. MMM, MMM!

I have some cauliflower from farmer's market I will steam for tonight with some garlic....don't know what else yet.....

inspirabull, looks like quite the dinner you had up there in Alaska!

I really do enjoy the wild salmon-

yagazn's post leads me to thinking about adding some carrots to my cauliflower

Ah Dogmom the wild salmon, so good, so many great ways to serve it. With your skills so many awesome nutricious and delicious meals. I am trying to change course in my life to where I live part of the year where I can fish all the time. What is your favorite way to cook the salmon?

It has been cold all day here today, and is supposed to get to freezing tonight, so I have a pot of black bean and pork chilli simmering on the stove. I'll top it with crumbled tortilla chips and a spoon of sour cream.

mmmm sounds yummy Jillio, I like black beans, gentle on the stomach and good so many ways

for dinner... sigh.... I just put on thermo clothes and my clothes.... off to pick up my ex and then head off to Brooklyn to meet up with my deaf friend - a small performance show plus dinner.

Jiro, have a nice time-

inspirabull :ty: from "skills" I don't know , but usually what I do is just bake the salmon w/but of olive oil and some dill or parsley. Often have with beans, or sweet potato. What is your favorite way to cool the fish you catch?

A Teriaki Rice bowl with shrimp, at a local restaurant.

inspirabull, bet they are amazing cuz so fresh!

jillio, my mom has been making some chili with some grass-fed beef from farmer market and lots of beans and tomatoes from neighbor's garden; I don't eat meat but for some of my mom's cooking like the chili:lol: I bet your place smells good and cozy!

often I have black beans with my eggs, or in a sprouted tortilla

My skills are limited - the large iron skillet or the quart, quart and a half saucepan, a damn good spatula, a couple of sharp knives, a measuring cup, and a big spoon. So I fry that salmon to perfection skin side down and sprinkle on my favorite spice which lately for salmon is sea salt and mustard powder. Mostly just the sea salt is enough for good times with fresh salmon. For me anyway. Oh how I love the sound of some of these meals. I think I am one of those guys who will become a real cook later in life just having a great time
with good food.

I had fresh steamed spinach and a milk chocolate covered butter cookies. I'm given to extremes. They do cancel each other out, don't they? :giggle:

I agree. I buy a 2 lb bag and cook them all at once, then freeze in 2 cup portions to use in different recipes. Much cheaper than the canned ones, and I can control the sodium content, too.

I love to cook in cast iron. I have a set of various skillets, a Dutch oven, and a griddle. I've collected them all over the years, and they are seasoned to perfection. Nothing sticks.

a paradox in food, sally.....:giggle:

chocolate cake and onions......

butter pecan ice cream and broccoli...

donut and swiss chard.......

u gave me an idea, inspirabull, about the mustard! I will try it!

I don't know what 2lbs is but where do you get the big bag of beans, jillio?

Dogmom, Oh wow, tofu salad is soooo good. We do ours with dill, curry, Nayonaise, dijon and tiny bit of chopped onion in whole wheat pita with baby greens. (mmm)

Tonight was all 50's food. We did roasted vegetables, meatloaf, salad and cake. (it was halloween kitty litter cake, looks gross, tasted amazing) We also had my hubbys good raspberry tea. I am so full (groan).

Loghead, my grandmom used to make me fried egg and friend bologna sandwiched for breakfast. I still like them. I remember you once had hamhocks that you frowned about, I take it that you live in the south with menus like this?

Jillio, some of the cast iron in my cupboard is older than me. No, nothing sticks, and it is a joy to use. The pans vary in size from "just us" to "Sherman's army". The grill left with the last daughter and it is missed. The electric grill is nice but just not the same. I use my dutch oven to bake Irish soda bread and sour dough. I got the idea from a magazine, it works so well.

so I'm back from Brooklyn and I had a very good time. Made a few more friends. but dinner was..... eh. I had "chicken canteena" which was grilled chicken + steamed vegetable + mexican rice. It was salty and lacking. This place is a Mexican restaurant but none of the food tastes like Mexican - not even by a mile. oh well.
