They're there, just about not so obvious. Look harder, listen to music posted by the band, lesser known labels, local concerts, etc. I usually do not listen to what the industry pitches, sounds too manufactured.
 
I don't think Beyonce and Queen is a very fair comparison. You're talking about two completely different genres and appreciation for what it is. Beyonce and the like is basically just dance music, the lyrics are rather irrelevant, and melody also. They just need a good beat, that's it. Songs in other genres, rock, blues, folk, country, there is a completely different emphasis and you're going to find more "art".

I think a more fair comparison would be Adele and Janis Joplin :)

aaaand I'm pretty sure you could have found lame producer prepackaged mediocrity in the 70's too ;)

Yea, it's looking at the best of one era and the worst of another. There are really good artist out there today.

No, the ability is there, it's just a two standard world. For instance, certain people get straight communication while another choice select is intentionally fed BS. Do your homework or chance being screwed.
