What ONE Thing Ticks You Off More...

"Can you read lips?"

Really ticks me off! Reading lips is not that accurate and why give misunderstand a chance? This shows hearing people are TOO lazy to learn adapt with one that lost the sense of sound.

One thing that that ticks me off may not be deaf related but it can maybe. When people from Mexico criticize my Spanish how I sound too America blah blah when my pronunciation has the accent on the words. That ticks me off! Hey, at least I speak the language right?

They criticize everyone. A Mexican once commented in a post I was reading that Argentines are white people that don't even pronounce the language right. Argentines are largely European that have Germanic and Italian influence so big shock there. I find it's better to ignore idiots than sink to their level. Spanish speakers from Argentina, Columbia, US, Puerto Rico, Mexico Peru, Chile, are all going to sound different. Not a real big surprise....but only an imbecile would try and belittle you for not talking like them.

Yes, very true. As the Spainards have the European influence and the dylex is a bit different than Mexican spoken language same goes for most south American countries the accents are going to be different.

I did tell someone before, be thankful I speak the language to assist you!

I do not think being HOH is a blessing. I do not believe in blessings .

you dealt the hand just got live it,i think it incredible patronizing when say it blessing.i agree no such thing as blessings

Well, I'm sorry you both see it that way. Certainly, being deaf has its own ups and downs. Yes, there has been some frustration with communication barriers, discrimination, ignorance, and the list goes on. However, I wouldn't change it and see it as a blessing because it has made me who I am as a person. I see it as a way to use to teach others (especially these hearing parents of deaf child/children) that being deaf isn't a terrible thing. :)

As an interpreter, I can list soooo many crazy questions teachers ask me, here are a few, " Does he/ she parents deaf ?" Do you go everywhere with he/ she? Can he/ she hear me a little bit? I often interpret these q's in front of my students.
