It would be nice to go beach/seaside for change. All what I see is mountians and hill where I live :dizzy:

Being with friends is what I think for my idea spring break. Family hang time and friends and travelling to places that I never been to is ideal for my summer vacation.

Oregon has the best summer (also Washington) because it never gets too hot or humid so I prefer to stay and head to either mtns or beach for camping or use my parents cabin, etc.

I like to get away in Spring when it rains so much here! Hence, I will be in Southern California for 10 days this month :)

There is so much to do around here that it is hard to leave!!! Never a dull moment here!

this april i will take my daughter to hilton head for her spring break.

hopefully i ll go to seneca rocks in wv then i will go to summerville near that town sometimes in may unless my dc.org's gathering ll be hosted in june or july then i ll vroom to there.

in july or august i may go to the gunks in ny(i keep failing not to go to the gunks for last 3 yrs. :dunno: )

my friends beg me to go to colorado springs, co this sept then we ll drive down to moab and zion in utah for a week. all plans will be for rock climbing only.

am i bored to yall eh ? heh. natures rock !

Well, Oregon would be second on my list.....and everybody else, just stay where you are! LOL!!

plan to Ocean City, NJ this summer.. only 4 days becuz I save some money for my honeymoon with Sabrina. :) ;)

Well, Roadrunner, each to his/her own, I guess. I was raised on a farm in a small rural town in Minnesota and hunting and fishing was our life after the chores were done.

Don't get me wrong, tho;, I do like people but deep down inside me tells me that I would go back to the isolated life in a heartbeat cuz I crave for the communion with Nature for longer than just the occasional vacation.

And Alaska being "the last frontier" really appeals to me as I approach the sunset of my working life, especially southeastern AK where the mean temperature in the dead of winter is actually milder than Minnesota's. Alaskans are a really great people BUT you have to FIRST show you can make it on your own there and THEN those people will give you the shirt off their backs. Just think of all the hunting and fishing there is to do not only for the "thrill of the tournament" feeling those sports give one but also for one's daily sustenance. Oh, and did I mention the grand vistas!!?? Oh, to die for....glaciers, mountains that beckon, the most sheltered waters in the world because of the thousands and thousands of islands there are out there on the ocean. Why, by golly, there are so many islands off shore that cartographers have traditionally failed to put onto one regular map every island that is out there! Ya gotta buy topo maps but those only cover a few square miles. I remember motoring out to a remote island and staying there a few nights and get this: Remember, this is out in the middle of the ocean, right? Well on this island , a little bigger than the deaf school campus I work at, has a fresh water lake on it!

Oh, I can go on and on but by now I think ya got caught up with and understand that which smolders in this bosom, right? LOL! Ya have a good day now, hear!

Far out!! Oh man, sure would love to take in all of what you've mentioned! There are awesome sights to behold and gawk at for hours at end when it comes to nature's beauty! I can understand when you must first fend for yourself, in order to survive before you can hold your hands out if you were to ever to expect any help from the villagers or local clan. Speaking of the islands, I knew that there were quite a few islands nestled about, but the way you've pointed out amazes me...realizing how many islands must be unaccounted for! For those who are brazen and bold enough to rough it out among the wildest and vast frontier, buying an island an option ever? Heh--

Lastly, you're originally from Minnesota, kewl, I'm from Iowa...so for a time, we must have unknowingly been neighbors! ;)

Thanks for sharing this and I sure hope you'll get much satisfaction of what will be pleasantly rewarding and countless of moments with nature's galore for days and years you can truly cherish within!!

I only go to Hawaii in the winter to get away from the snow. Summer in the big city is fantastic. Why would anyone want to go away? There's festivals, fairs, outdoor cafes, shopping, and just a whole bunch of things happening.

In the State of Utah, there are like 5 or 6 National Parks, as well as many BLM land and USFS land. There is so much nature here to enjoy and see. In the wintertime, half of these places are inaccessible because of 500 inches of snow falling all winter long. With the disablity card here in Utah, one is entitled to 50% discount for skiing passes, and free entrances to all National Parks and BLM/USFS land. Moab, 5 hours south of SLC, is known as America's Playground where people go hiking, off-roading with 4x4, bicycling on rocks, water rafting, etc... etc... Utah borders Arizona on the Grand Canyon, and SLC is only 4 to 5 hours south of Yellowstone State Park.

So, while the city has its nice qualities, I am definitely not gonna pass the chance to drive 4 or 5 hours away to places like Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Jackson Hole, Zion, Moab, etc... :scatter:

Oh, the grandeur of the Grand Tetons! As seen to your left going north out of Jackson Hole. The Tetons don't fool around with foothills; man, they just go straight up, right now! LOL! And don't forget the glacier that can be seen on this road to the southern entrance of Yellowstone!
