What is the most deaf friendly HDTV?

I'm looking for one too,LCD. Probably 19-25". I'd also like to have a clock and on and off timers as well so I could awaken to a light source in addition to my alarm clock tone.

what about energy efficient?
I have no interest in purchasing a Plasma TV. They get too hot.

Sony?
Samsung?
Insignia?

Thanks!

The brand do not matter to us. Just go to any store to test around like we did.

Some models have great CC and some models suck under same brand.

LCD with LED is high energy efficient than just LCD.

I have not gone to Best Buy yet. I have been to Costco, and saw most HDTV with giant fonts. My concern is that large fonts take over the space, blocking the screen, which I don't like.

Some models that you can disable black blackground and it looks like subtitle font.

I went to the Sony store today and looked at the Google TV. It had nearly infinitely adjustable captions, very cool. You could adjust font size, shape, color and background. The Yankees game happened to be on, so he did a split picture with the CCs sample over it. (Due to store set-up, it was not possible to bring in the actual CCs for the program.) The one I liked best for watching sports was a verson with no background and either black or white print.

That was really nice; no losing track of the action in any way by the black bar of the usual CC set up obscuring it.

I don't know if other brands of TVs have that. It was a really nice feature, I thought.

Still didn't pull the trigger, but Sony is certainly a top contender.

I have *zero* problem with FHDTV 32 and 42inch for beautiful CC.. MMMM... Sony & Samsung are both awesome quality. My advice - Yes Get FHDTV 1080p if 37inch or less than 42inch.. trust your own instinct.

G'Luck!

What is "F" HDTV? I know the HDTV part, just never saw the F as prefix for it.
You see #28, She is right.

Full HDTV is for a TV that can display 1080p automatically as default, but sometime degrading 720 or 420, depend on what tv's channel, DVD movie, or VHS.

Thats why I prefer FHDTV 1080p over HDTV 720p. :D

Keep in mind: all FHDTVs are HDTVs but not all HDTVs are FHDTV.

Ah, thanks. Makes sense, I just had never seen it written out like that.

Does anyone here have an LG "smart" tv? If so, how do you like it?

I have two Vizio HDTV. CC are adjustable to size or color fonts. Very nice options. I wish I had gotten Digital Captioning option. Only newer Vizio HDTV have one.

How is that different from regular captioning?

I'm sorry, I'm feeling really stupid about all the options! No wonder I'm in the "paralysis by analysis" stage. Last time we bought a TV was about 10 years ago.

Vizio is something you should take a consideration on among with the other brands. It's a pretty economical TV brand. It's only my opinion, but it has good captioning at least it's readable. I believe it is also Energy Star certified.

Ah, you're somewhat technically inept? Ha-ha. Fast forward a decade later. It's amazing how things change so fast over the span of 10 years, right? :D

You can set up captioning you like. You can change the background color from the basic black to red, yellow, green, etc. I am not a fan of colors so I prefer to have it stay black. You can also make the background invisible, only with the words but I feel that they can be a little hard to read as they're blending on the screen pretty well.

Wirelessly posted (sent from a smartphone. )

Never heard of that before. All hdtv have caption decoder inside. It just depends on the decoder engine that displays captions. Some appear smaller and some appear larger. As long it displays captions, then it counts.

Alot of my friends here including myself pointing at Samsung to be best choice for Deaf people. I have had several different brands of TV and Samsung has always beat em all. Vizio is alright for mid size, but if your interest in decent caption, Samsung is way to go.

I have 55 inch LED Internet TV, and the caption is very customized,. Can change color, font, etc. I changed it to magenta and it was so awesome.

BTW my electric usage seems to drop down significant after replace 36 inch boob TV. And yes LED is to be most energy efficient of all. Not much heat coming out. I had it for 2 months. I also notice that there is less dust collection on LED TV than other kind of TV. Interesting.

I figured that Samsung is the best for that. I used to have Olevia HDTV but that got stolen. It did have good captions customizabity settings.

Does the Samsung have a coordinated DVD player that will transmit captions? Also, on the ones that have Internet capability, will the Samsungs show captions from streaming Netflix and other sources?

I guess MLB.TV doesn't even have captions at the source, which is too bad. I was going to sign up for that until I found out they don't transmit captions. It's odd because far as I know, MLB piggy-backs onto other sports networks transmissions; they don't have their own camera guys, I don't think. (Or am I wrong about that??) And surely the other regional networks are transmitting with captions, so I don't understand why MLB.TV couldn't transmit them too.
