What is more important, what you say or what people say about you?

I agree with Jiro. I believe it's important to live by your words, but I will say that what comes out of your mouth is more important than what people have to say about me. But that's because I don't care what people say about me.
well - generally... you should care about what people say about you (except whiners and Debbie Downers) because we cannot self-analyze ourselves.
having a strong self-esteem is how you can improve yourself by listening to their constructive criticism and not getting depressed about it. arrogance is when they like to hear themselves talking and ignoring everybody else because their opinions are more important.
so a question for you - a person who you respect and value very much... does this mean you don't care about what he/she says about you?
both.
if you preach what you say... people will say good thing about you.

I disagree with this , there will be people that will say things about others no matter how they live their life. Some people only know how to feel big by spreading lies and rumors about other people.
not a problem for me.
lot of people who know me know enough to know the truth (whoa ever seen lot of "know" in one sentence? ). if they want to believe the lie, then I guess it's pretty obvious that they're no longer my friends. very simple. my life is basically drama-free and I don't spend my time and grief trying to prove them wrong.
like I said before - you just gotta have a strong self-esteem. if they want to feel big by spreading lies and rumors - go ahead.... be my guest. it's very easy for me to make these drama queens feel very small without even raising my blood pressure

Well sure, there are people in my life whose opinions I value, but that's a pretty small handful of people.
that's more than enough!
You're probably right. However, you have to agree that at the end of the night, your actions, words and thoughts are all you really have that make you who you are; nobody has to live with that but you. So I do believe that the emphasis should be more about focusing on who you are as an individual, and less about caring what others have to say.
