What good thing happened to you today?

yes. They also keep it stationary when you are sitting at a table or something. In my basket, I keep a small towel (clean the wheels after the rain when going to church), a plastic bag (place the items in the basket into it during the rain to keep dry), an ASL dictionary, 2 pads of paper with pens, and then whatever else. Sunday will have the Bible and book for notes. Saturday will have my Sudoku book and a magazine to keep busy at the hair dresser's. The handles can go higher and my basket will also sit in the front if need be. When I put it in the car, the basket and back-bar go on the seat, then the rollator folds up and slides in behind the driver's seat and the back seat at the floor.
 
i made a person forget all about their problems :) it's good feeling when you know you can make people happy
 
I gave a donation to a homeless person who was a diabetic. He used to live up the road from us, but lost his house after losing his job. He's been out of work for over 2 years and lost his house and everything a month ago. All the shelters are full and now he's out on the street panhandling. I didn't have much, but gave him what I had. He went straight to McD's to get a coffee and breakfast.
 
Kristina, you did a good deed today. +100 million for you. Does your church offer a benevolence for these types of situations? Our church used to help with groceries and utility bills until the economy bottomed out and we were hit with hordes of people needing help. Some came in just looking for money to pay their rent let alone their utilities for the month. One was a young couple that had just had a child. The mother was on maternity leave at WM (they get the time off without pay) and the husband had just gotten laid off at PJP. They were living off the WIC vouchers literally for their food which isn't much if you think about it. They had no money to pay their utilities, and they needed money just for their rent. That saddened me. But I also had just gotten laid off and we were still waiting for our unemployment to kick in, which took around two weeks. Before the plant closed this guy was making just enough to pay his bills and some groceries. When the plant was going full-steam and his wife was working they were able to live comfortably, now they found themselves struggling.

Now that donations and tithing is down, our church is struggling to meet it's own budget needs. They had to cut the full-time janitorial/maintenance position and just went with a part-time janitor that just does the absolute basics. They clean after services on Sunday nights and after services on Wednesday nights. That's it. It averages to around 20 hrs a week total as they have to clean two large buildings.

I'm starting wonder if the music minister's position is safe. I've seen a couple of churches cut their music minister positions in this crapola economy.

I wish that everyone gave a little so that everyone could have some to give to others, if that makes sense.

I'm thinking about doing just random acts of kindness. If the person wants to pay me back for it, I will tell them to pay it forward by helping someone else in need.
 
I downed 6 packs of sugar... oh wait, that's probably not a good thing??? :eek2:
 
Dixie - MIL's church does have a food pantry, but when we needed help, we were refused. Seems the pastor has his own rules about how to distribute so I don't even offer it to anyone.

My Deaf church is jut starting out and since we are using space in the Deaf club, we really can't do anything like that. They are working to begin more things since we are growing. The church is just now 1 year old and has gone for an attendance of 6-10 to 30-50 each week.

I like this a lot. Back when I was a starving student and a mother of a toddler, we were in a pharmacy where I was buying diapers when my kid really wanted to get a Kinder Egg - those chocolate eggs that have small toys inside them. I couldn't afford it. Those were the days I subsisted on spaghetti noodles, soy sauce and canned tuna so I could afford healthy foods for my child such as milk, yoghurt, fruits, veggies, meats, etc.

The man behind me in the lineup, he was with his daughter close to my son's age. He picked up 2 Kinder Eggs, paid for them then gave them to my son. I never forgot that and it inspired me to do random acts of kindness ever since. Never underestimate the power of kindness, no matter how small it seems, it can really make someone's day.
 
Once, in a convenience store, I saw a guy whom I've seen "panhandling" at the nearby intersection. He put his stuff down on the counter while going to look at something and I slipped a $5 bill under his stuff...just hope he got it and not someone who saw me do it.
I've also given money to people at stoplights...if I had a few dollars handy and I have the red light. I don't do it all the time, just some times.
 
Got a box full of free mascara and 5 different kind of lip balms. I love freebies...
