What does this mean?

hi, im new here so first off let me apologize if im in the wrong section and/or "what does * mean" posts are looked down on.

ok so long story short, this girl was flirting with me and sadly i can't remember most of it, but what i can is this..

first she takes her thumb and starts at the top of her head and drags it down her face, over her chest to a little above the waist. Next she makes what i think is the symbol for y? looks like \m/ (only the pinky and thumb extended with ring, index, and middle closed) turned sideways so the pinky is pointed at me, then moves it back and forth 3 times.

I can't even seem to find a place online that lists either swears or sexual signs after looking for 2 hours, im going crazy!
 
Hello and welcome to Alldeaf! From the description you've given, with the thumb and pinky extended, the sign: 'play' comes to mind...yet, with the thumb going down the length of her from her forehead to her waist obviously could simply be a gesture of teasing..or her way of doing so?

Well I'm not sure what does it mean. At end as you mentioned "Y" back and forth could mean ... me too then what RR saying about play ... I was thinking well ... perhaps she asked if you would like to play with her.

Hello! I am thinking the symbol of "Y" while wiggling it back and forth would be the sign for "Play" just like what RoadRunner had said previously, but however, I am thinking of "Man" for some reason when you mentioned of her putting the thumb on the top of her head and drags it down across her chest to slightly above her waist. So she probably is saying "Man's playing" or something like that. That is my assumption but it would not hurt to try to ask her what the sign meant in order for you to understand her a little better.

oh i did ask her many times, but she wont tell me...probably because she knows it's driving me crazy lol.

This site is great for beginners and has alot of common sign languages. Perhaps you can find the one that you were looking for and at the same time you can learn a thing or two from surfing on that site ;)
 
ok thanks for the tip on that site, i looked at it and see what you guys mean by "play" but it wasn't wiggled back and forth..more like us standing across from each other and her thumb pointing towards her and pinky towards me then moving the hand forward and back 3 times as if to point you,me,you

when/if she does tell me i'll be sure to post it

:welcome: to All Deaf ko boxer86!! LOL!! Funny story. I'm hearing myself & still learning ASL. Next time have her write it down. But it might be a good idea to at least the ABC's in sign language. That's how I 1st started off when I got with my wife who is deaf. I learned the abc's in about an hour. That would give you a good start. That way she can say finger spell it to you next time hehe':)

From what you're describing - It seems to be logic to say that she signed "SAME" as in (We're both in it together). Be aware that there are also several different signs that has the same word for it. It can get quite confusing for a beginner but in the long run, You'll be able to get a grasp on it and know the difference.

That does make it more difficult. It's a lot harder to know a sign's meaning without the context.

I can't quite visualize that description. Is the thumb going down the front of the face (down the nose), or around the face (like a frame)? Depending on the direction, some possibilities are describing a state or nationality beginning with "A".

The second part, you say "over her chest to a little above the waist." Do you mean straight across the chest, like shoulder to shoulder? Or do you mean diagonally, like the sign "KING" (shoulder to opposite side of waist)? Or do you mean straight down the middle (like "PRIDE" in the opposite direction)?

Could it be a name sign? Or regional sign?

I agree with the others; that seems to be the sign for "me, too" or "you and me the same." Possibly as a response to a question from you, such as, "I like that movie," then she responds, "me, too."

Was there something about her facial expression or body language that caused you to think she was swearing or talking dirty? Many ASL signs have a "clean" meaning and a "dirty" meaning, depending on context, facial expression, and how the sign is done (example, HUNGER v. LUST).
