what does PAH mean?

Yeah, I am usin' PAH as in " finally " or " it's about time ! "

Maybe in the hearing world, PAH/BAH means disgusted
but in DEAF world, it means different which is "finally", "about time", "success" and many more.

Not everything in hearing and deaf world are perceived to be same.

Wow, that's weird! I've been a hearing person for over 55 years, and I've traveled and lived in many different states, yet I've never heard another hearing person say "pah"!

I asked Hubby too, and he never heard anyone say, "pah". (He looked at me like I was asking a crazy question.)

Well, I've learned something new today.
 
It's not too common here in upstate NY, but I do hear/use it from time to time.

Now, I always thought the Deaf "pah" was the same as the Deaf "chah!" which we were told in our ASL class was used to emphasize something really huge.

I learned something new too :)
 
i learned something new, too as i was talking to another dear friend of mine. in deaf world the asl meaning of pah is finally.. no wonder i didnt know cuz i dont know asl much myself.. go figures! :)

Since this got bumped...

"PAH" in ASL is based on the mouth morpheme (shape the mouth makes when signing a specific sign/phrase) used along with the sign for "Finally" (and sometimes "FINISH" etc) -it's has nothing at all to do with any English word/slang etc of "Pah" (which might mean more like "meh", or "ehh" and have a negative context)

PAH in the Deaf community is one of the few "words" that we use in written form occasionally - sort of like a Loan Sign, in reverse.

In my Sig here I use "ASL PAH" because I grew up oral only for many years and then finally had access to ASL ... It's closest English equivalent would be "ASL - Yes! Finally!" (A sense of pride, accomplishment of a journey etc)

There is a version of "SUCCEED" that means "Finally! At last! Eureka!
This sign is known as "Pah!" The reason why is that when doing this sign, you must use a mouth movement that looks like you are saying "Pah!" In addition to the "pah" mouth movement, you also only do

First time I heard of PAH is during DPN. I was wondering where did it originated from?
 
I guess I am a little more along in years and find Pah to be difficult.

I usually used the word Eh and a sarcastic swipe of a hand to indicate taking out the subject situation to the trash. Sorta.
