Once you see it - it's too late. What they do is break into your account and send emails out to all the people on your list with a spam message.

This is in addition to recording all these addresses into their system.

This is three of these that I have gotten several times:
This had to come in a hurry and it has left me in a devastating state. I'm in some terrible situation and I'm really going to need your urgent help. Some days ago,unannounced,I came to visit a resort center in Drayton, Scotland Road Industrial Estate, Dry Drayton Cambridge England, UK..but I got mugged by some hoodlums and lost all my cash,credit cards, I'm financially stranded right now and my return flight leaves in few hours time but I need some money to clear some bills, I didn't bring my cell phone along since I didn't get to roam them before coming over. So all I can do now is pay cash and get out of here quickly.I do not want to make a scene of this which is why I did not call my house,this is embarrassing enough.I was wondering if you could loan me some cash, I'll refund it to you as soon as I arrive home just need to clear my Hotel bills and get the next plane home, As soon as I get home I'll refund it immediately. Write me so I can let you know how to send it.

Hi ,
I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,I came down here to
London,England for a short vacation and i was mugged at gun point last
night at the park of the hotel where i lodged all cash,creditcards and
cell were stolen off me.

I've been to the US embassy and the Police here but they're not
helping issues at all,My flight leaves in less than 3hrs from now and
am having problems settling the hotel bills.
The hotel manager won't let me leave until i settle the hotel bills
now am freaked out.

It has happened to one of my Gmail using friends. But most often, yahoo.

I used to hack Yahoo systems, and can easily tell you it's very hackable. Too many "doors" into their system.

I've been on the receiving end of those scam messages. I just ignore them because I can tell they're from an address book attack. I can't believe some people still fall for them. Older hearing people fall for the same thing when they get those phone calls. They don't even notice that the caller (supposedly a grandchild or close friend) doesn't even sound like that person, or has a foreign accent. Duh!

Is there no prevention?

Stiffer passwords, 10+ characters, use upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. Try not to have anything resemble anything.

Don't go on websites that are questionable.
 
Yahoo! I really like the website. Always find something to read and I have used yahoo email forever. Why switch? :) I had no idea google have email.

EDIT: I forgot to mention Yahoo is my homepage.
 
I use 2 yahoo mails for computer and cellphone. Gmail both on single account either cellphone or computer.

EarthLink email not much to use it's belong to my ISP.
