When people say a job pays good money, what do you think is good money?

Matter of perspective really. For some ANY money is "good money" based on what their situation is at the moment. In general depends on what the field is- there is a 'standard' salary range for most jobs but many do go outside of that range on either end.

"Good money" to me is something that I can afford to live on without having to rely on anyone else for living space, food, health care etc. Virtual impossibility with what I have right now.

Show me the money!

As long as the roof is over my head and the food and chocolate ice cream are on my table, and hiking on the mountain, I am happy.

I think it mean people are making enough money to be able to live the lifestyle they enjoy once their all their bills are paid up to date . Of course what 'good money'
to one person may not be to another person.

LOL, it's a funny phrase when I hear it. I am left wondering, "what's good money to that person?" LOL I think I am going to start asking "what's good money to you?" lol I always think good money is when you not only can pay your basic bills but you can also afford to have a health insurance, home, car, travel and save. Saving is important to have. Living paycheck to paycheck is not good money in my opinion, you should be able to save.

I always thought good money is starting somewhere around $15 an hour. What do you think?

That would depend on what the person COL expenses are, $15 would be a lot to some people and chicken feeds to others.

Yeah, you're right. It depends on where you live. I also think it depends on how well you manage your living expenses. If you're making good money and you think that's not enough but you don't manage to cut down on some unnecessary expenses, it'll never seem enough. If you're doing so already, but you don't seem to make ends meet, then it's probably not good money.

Yeah it cost a lot to live in New England with our long cold winters the heating bills can really eat into your money.

Do not be so spoiled. Everyone these days wants to make top dollar w/o working hard and climbing the ladder.

So, you don't believe in being rich? I understand what you mean when you don't work hard at it and you get promoted to sit and be pretty lol. I don't think there's anything wrong with having an abundance of money. It can sort of become a greedy world.

I guess it depends on the lifestyle that you want.

I love this statement. There's a piece of wisdom that makes the rounds often. If you (or anyone) had to choose between the hypothetical following:

  • Working 20 hours a week for a $50,000 salary
  • Working 80 hours a week for a $500,000 salary
Which would you pick?

I'd pick the 20 hours option. I want to donate my time to make a difference in the world. I want to volunteer. I want to go out and support people, create things, and live a productive, fulfilling, wholesome life.

I don't want to spent 80 hours a week in a cubicle slaving away. My relationships are what truly make me happy. If I sit in a cubicle 80 hours, I'm not going to see the people I care about. I'm going to suffer burnout and my whole quality of life will drop. I'd have a lot of money and would be miserable. And when someone's miserable, they often spread that miserableness to others. That's not an impact I want to have.

Being "rich" / having "good money" is relative. I think the person in the first option is far richer than the person in the second option.

$15 an hour just means $10 cheese burgers and $5 a gallon of gas. I live pay check to pay check, some times not even and live with my parents because I couldn't afford rent :( money now days is nothing but paper.

I get monthly 150$ when I was working part time job I think this is good money for me and can afford to pay monthly rent fee is about 52$ :hmm:

Wow, why so mean? Why the personal attack? This is an open discussion thread. No one needs to be attacked here. I already felt some negative vibe from this poster. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I will not discuss further.

Correction: This is for Cappy not Deafducky.
