Top car colors and what they say about you | Driving the Nation

I didn't realize a lot of work would have been put just on color of vehicles. I guess that is what you have to do to make sales as many people make color their top priority in their car selection.

Like, maybe red may be a person's favorite color, but a particular model may not look cool in red. However, it may look cool in black. I would suppose it's kind of like with clothes. Some people look good in yellow shirts while others may look ugly in yellow shirts.

I'm amazed that people would go to trade shows to research their color selection. So much can be learned from reading this article.

Wirelessly posted (sent from a smartphone. )

Interesting!

Yeah!....remembering my Yellow Mustang...I was an "outdoorsy" person, loved the sun and surf...Then White became popular...got a White Camaro....never owned anything Red in color, tho'....too flashy for my taste, except for the color of Electric Red Metallic (a truck I bought)....Teal was really popular in my town for awhile too....(Jaguars color)....

Now my car is Silver, a very popular color these days...too popular. really....dunno about my next vehicle color tho'.

On a tangent another thing that surprises me is the research in bars and restaurants. If you've ever seen the show "Bar Rescue" I think you'll be surprised at how much science there is in just running a bar. You'd think it'd be pretty easy, just sell beer. The End.

But even deciding what to put in the menu is a scientific endeavor, for one thing they take into account food that women can eat without making a mess of themselves. And this might not be a surprise but most bars try to attract women because when they come then the guys come to buy drinks for them. :cool2:

I have never picked out a color for a car. I just buy 'em cheap as long as they're runnig. I do have a couple decent cars but yeah I'm generally a craigslist $500 or $1000 car kinda guy.

On the other hand... nothing but new and the best when it comes to my motorcycles.

I didn't read the link. However the reason I picked silver is that dirt (water spots, etc) on it is unnoticeable. I used to have a black Camaro and dirt was VERY noticeable. RR is right about silver being very popular now.

Derek I have plenty of car stories from the 1950's & very early 60's because my dad sold cars.

One you may find interesting is the time that he had a couple as potential customers for an Oldsmobile who had also looked at Pontiac and gotten the name of a color that she liked. I don't know what GM does now but, at that time, they used the same colors for their products just naming them different among the different GM brands. Even after showing them one, which they liked the features of, he could not convince her that despite the different name it was the same color and he lost the sale!

Hmmm interesting!

Lets look at what colour cars I've owned...

Volvo 740GL RED
Ford Granada Scorpio 4x4 (Merkur) Black
Ford Seirra BLACK
Ex-Army Land Rover CAMO (jordanian army pattern)
Volvo 740SE SILVER
Range-Rover BLUE
Rover 214i BLACK
Volvo S40 SILVER

.... and in australia

Volvo 360GLT RED
Ford Falcon WHITE

My choice of colour has simply been dictated by the car I could find at the time, although over here in Oz, flat colours mainly whites and silvers predominate simply because they resist the ravages of the sun better...stronger colours such as reds and greens tend to fade quicker...

And then there are people like me that buy used and are more interested in the car being in excellent condition and equipped the way we want it (or easy to add what is missing) than what color it is.

I love black vehicles. Both my Honda Civic and hubby's Jeep Wrangler are black. We bought both brand new so it was just a matter of picking what color we wanted.

Most of the vehicles I've owned have been black ... some weren't but it wasn't by choice as it was just starting out in high school or needed a vehicle worse than being able to choose the color. But I've had a Monte Carlo, Camaro, S10 truck, an older Chevy Blazer and my current vehicle is another Blazer which is also black. My motorcycle was black(and chrome) as well.

Our new Cube is in a color called Sapphire Black, which is basically black with blue glitter in it. It's really cool, but our decision was influenced by the Cubes on the lot being white, dark red, and the one we bought.

I was really taken by the dark red, but it cost $1000 more than the one we bought, and since we could both think of lots of things to do with that extra $1000, we took the black.

Mostly chose light colors since it's so hot here. I've had a lot of different colors over my life time. Green, white, black, grey. My favorite car was my Mustang which was a burgundy color. My car now is silver.

The burgundy car may have more options than the black one hence the price. I don't think color had anything to do with that.

I think that is true. My husband said that too, but I only liked it more because of the color.
