What Books Have You Recently Purchased?

Books I bought recently

I bought "Greatest American Essays of the 20th Century", and "Greatest Short Stories of 20th Cent". Some therapy books.... I'm going to read Obama's book and I want some kind of clinical case studies in Abnormal Psychology. Naybe I'll have time to finish Stephen King's "Duma Key" ( I bought it on the day it was released but didn't have any time to read it) and Im finishing King's Short Story collection "Everything's Eventual"

No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky
The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky

For clinical case studies, I would suggest Love's Executioner and Other Tales of Psychotherapy by Irving Yalom. He is a practitioner that uses the exitential theory, and is a collection of actual cases he has treated.

Sadly I must give Oliver Sacks Seeing Voices a thunbs (way) down. I did not like this book at all. I did not gain any insights on Def culture. It was very poorly writen and the author was neither a deaf/hoh or student of Deaf culture which might of been the reason for this bad book. I do not recommend it.

I have to agree with Jillio on this one -- of what she said in a post one or two after yours, AB. Not only because of what Jillio said, but because I myself am deaf and am immersed in deaf culture so those of us who are immersed in deaf culture might understand this book more than someone who is not. Just my 2 cents.

I am so glad I found this thread.

I love books. Like many of you I have all of Stephen Kings books, but no originals. It's funny, I have tons of books in my shed too. I have one book that is from 1878 and is a history book. The print is soooo small it is hard to read. Sadly, the cover is falling apart. I bought about 40 years ago at a flea market for a quarter.

I have not read Notes from the Underground just yet.

Great Tales and Poems of Edger Allen Poe by Edgar Allan Poe
Empress of the Splendid Season by Oscar Hijuelos

West of Jesus (surf book).

I recently bought an used book called CAESAR which was written by Christian Meier. It is a bio of Julius Caesar, one of the greatest Roman Emperor and military leaders in our history. He is one of my favorite historical figures. :)

Oh man tell that to me about books...I hadnt bought any books for a year since gawd knows when. I think I bought one of Harry Turtledove's "World War" science fiction/alternate history books and I hadnt even gotten to read it! :(

I got too many books stashed everywhere in my house and I havent read any of them for like what 5 or 6 months?!

"Christ The Lord: The Road To Cana" by Anne Rice. It is the second book in her new series on Jesus and his life written by her like he was reciting it and seeing it through his eyes through all his life. it isn't a true story or anything, just a story by her of the life of Jesus from what she has studied and stuff. I don't usually read anything to do with religion but I have read all, and own all, published works by her so I bought the first one and now have bought this one and it being Anne it happens to be interesting. She is the one who wrote "Interview With The Vampire" and "Queen Of The Damned".

Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama by X.J. Kennedy
