Whoohoo!! I got infected by a backdoor worm!

Did I cry? no. I just ran AVG and Stinger.

There was one created by a ecard company. I don't remember the name of it, but I know if the ecard company can make something like this, so can others!

Wrong answer.

I asked you for the name of a hacker and a virus. Wonder of wonders, you gave me a commercial company instead.

Ought i hold my breath for a real answer?

It doesn't matter if it is a corp or an individual, whoever made a virus or worm for gathering information is a hacker or a hacking corp. I already know for myself that they are out there.

And your point?

If you had kids to feed and a huge mortgage to pay you'd be going "oh $hit" as your boss sends you home for a few days without pay as they undo hacker damage.

ps: taking a look at the vote tally kinda indicates hackers might find their heads in a basket if AD members were on a courtroom jury. :smash:

Have a hacker day!

Actually, Bush2K4 is making a good point. If a hacker cause damages to a company. It will result in reduced income for the workers.

If we allow the hackers to cause damages, then we are hurting the economy.

Any hacking resulting in damages should be made illegal, period!

Ah, without hackers, our society would be boring. We need to have chaos in order to maintain an interesting society.

yes.. but.. I was single mom and have kids.. the budget are limited.. cant afford to get new one or have it fixed.. i have to wait to get parts from computer sale fair.. or something.. then finally fix.. but its really PITA! :)

Yeah, like MSN company which offers unwitty Mac users their version of MSN Messenger, only to hack into Mac computers and ruin their settings, for example!!

If it was intended to cause damages, then yes, they should be punished.

damage or none, hackers need to stop hacking into personal computers and other computers, they also need to stop destroying poeple's money and just provide info without HACKING into those innocent poeple who didn t do anything but wanting to have fun online, or surfing anywhere they please, So what's the point? IF U WANTED TO HACK A COMPUTER HACK UR OWN!

Thank god, I am on Mac, because the vast majority of hackers and virus writers choose to focus their criminal efforts on the predominant platform, which is Windows.

Yeah!! Macs are a lot more secure than PCs than people believe. I am a Mac-whore at heart!

There's that eCard company and there's Microsoft.

Can you please provide some URLs, I'm interested in reading about what they have done.

Of course, Microsoft get their share of legal troubles from the anti-trust lawsuits. :whip:

But about eCard, I don't know what they have done. Except that they have something to do with medical records.

If Microsoft and eCard had caused damages to the user's computers. They should be held responsible for the damages.

Hacking somebody's computer without their knowledge is just the same as vandalism.

If they want to test the security holes, they should at least do it with the consent of the computer users so they won't be liable for their actions. They probably have their own computers to test it on which they should be.

I've had a Mac computer for almost a year and I have yet to get any viruses.

Believe it or not.

On the PC, there has been THOUSANDS of attempts at attacking the computer. Of course, only 1 or 2 of them got through to the PC.

But it's not fun having to check up on the PC all the time to make sure it's okay.

Well like deaf258 or WHO ever just said THEY should ask permission but my thinking is, if u want to test secuirty and work on virus ON THAT computer then have the company do the dirty deed NOT the innocent bystanders, like momma annie said she has to buy parts not get a new computer some poeple can't afford computers now u can see how hackers are disrupting the norms of poeple who are computer illerate and not know how to operate just e mail then sit there and not relize they got hacked and thier computer crashes and then go back to store saying my computer broke i need a replacement, its like wasting money for them and for other poeple who doesn't know how to deal with viruses, So its common sense if u want to test hacking system USE it at ur OWN computer not on others  computer companies like HP,compaq Dell and other computers are getting rich cuz of the hackers, I think the law should be implemented to make them stop and HAVE mirosoft set up a divison to do THIER own hacking IN THIER own system NOT ours!

Apple's Macintosh computers can be attacked by viruses and worms and can be the targets of hackers, just like Windows machines. But, not often, that's why Apple computer are rarely than windows.
