I really hate it when that happens. Of course once I clean out the tube or put in a new battery it usually comes back on, but it's still a stressful moment when you wonder if you're up the creek without the paddle.

Right up there with biting something hard and feeling a crack and you frantically run your tongue over all your teeth to see if one of them got chipped. Such a scary moment until the verdict.

My HA has gone dead on me a few times with no warning right when I am talking to someone and I can't hear a dam thing b/c I only wear one HA in my left ear . I only 24 % speech recognition in my right ear my audi just told yesterday my right ear is "No good" . :( I had being up creek without the paddle.

Exactly. I usually know when the battery is going, I changed battery anyway and cleaned it and nothing working for a bit there. That usually never happens.

My HA will get moisture in it and go dead ,it does beep when the battery about to die and it has a flashing red light too , that so parents and teachers can see when a kid battery is going dead. I wanted purple HA and they're kids friendly . My granddaughter once asked me why my HA was flashing a red light.
 
I'm pondering if I should take the Lincoln Park bike path tomorrow or not. It's 35 acres, and it would be a fun challenge.

The Toyota Avalon is rated as good but they start at $40,000

4 cylinder, it does come with V6 too but isn't as good on gas mileage. It was my rental car when I got hit in 2012.
 
I rented a Malibu around 2007 or so... it came with V6 engine and had good power. The best fuel economy I made was about 35mpg. Perhaps a little tailwind pushed the car a bit lol

I haven't had moisture issues with mine. I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world if my HA went out, except I would struggle at work without it. I am scheduled to get a evaluation for a new one soon anyway though. The audiologist said my HA is a wee bit outdated being its a 2002 model.
 
So we bought a new car today. 2014 Nissan Maxima. This is our 5th Nissan. Sales guy was amazing. No one bothered us. Let us test drive by ourselves etc.

I will post a picture tomorrow.

That's an awesome dealer right there. Not many would be that flexible.
 
When we were signing papers for the new car, we were asked to sign this form stating that we were explained everything in...then you check off
1) English
2) Spanish
3) Russian
4) Chinese
5) Vietnamese

So I asked the guy why it did not list ASL. I told him I was deaf but he thought I was joking once again because I can speak. A little later I took off my CI to change the battery and he looked a little shocked.

That happens to me, too. When people meet me, and they assume I am hearing because I speak so well, but once I start using ASL and going voice-off, they're like :jaw: and they then ask me if I'm deaf, and I say yes, but since I travel a lot, that's not something I've encountered in a while.

It would not be the end of the world of me either but it sure would be painful having to wear a HA in my right ear which is all messed up and I can barely understand anything in my right ear anymore.

Angel, sorry about your car but very relieved you're recovering and am happy that it's one of the best outcomes in terms of insurance/legality....some years ago I was rear-ended like your described. It was actually the third time in a year I'd been rear-ended. All cases were confirmed to be the fault of the other parties. The time similar to yours, I was coming home during early evening traffic on a busy main road and we were coming up on a light. I got bumped from behind twice. I got out and saw 4 of us involved - me, the person in front and two others behind. One of the drivers was a pregnant woman. I heard her on her phone as she came up toward everybody <police, us out of the vehicles> crying, saying - I think I hit some people-

good luck with your beautiful new car! In years past we had Nissans, before they were bought by Renault and change of quality. My hubby really investigates Consumer Reports for new/major purchases and the last few times we've chose between Toyota and Honda, with Honda coming out ahead for us.


I'm thinking about how the patio door project is coming. Hub and handy-man- type neighbor <who put an addition on his home> are working to get the sliding glass patio doors off to put new rollers at the bottom, that make the doors slide. I think they're also gonna do some painting of base of doors and maybe work on the wall crack that runs partially parallel to the vertical frame of one of the glass doors. It's a crack in the paint. Not there when we moved in and actually seems to have happened just after we had a high wind for like a day - we actually had a wind warning and we rarely have those.
 
ALso thinking - just now went to "what are doing?" section and saw part of the comments from you Botti, and you, Angel, about the Nissan again...thinking they must have improved since we looked at the Consumer Reports. When we were researching, the Nissan we read about really did poorly, but am glad to see you saying it seems better. The reliability is an important factor, hope they can improve that too. My husband had two Nissans before he met me <we've known each other for about 20 years- dating and engaged for some years before we got married> and he really loved them - one was a hatchback from the 80's and the other was a little black 4-door Nissan Sentra GXE. That was the first car I ever drove. We lived in an apartment and we gonna get married the next year. I'd just completed Adult Driver's Ed....was about 25 or something. The first time I ever drove by myself, I drove that black Nissan a few blocks away to buy allergy medication at the little independen neighborhood pharmacy, which is no longer there. Hubby says he was sooo worried about me that first time I drove.

Lots of memories in cars, sometimes!

I had people tell that I can hear 'good' and I have to tell them "No , my HA is helping me hear I am almost deaf with it off" Some hearing people will never get it. They're OK ! I just called her.


I am thinking where is my daughter , she called a hour ago saying she is leaving her house soon , it only take 30 minutes to get to my house.
 
dogmom.....Thank you very much. We looked at Toyota because they really do have some of the highest ratings. I test drove the Toyota Avalon and didn't care for it very much. Plus they are pretty expensive. I sat in the Camry but it just felt too small.

I loved the Nissan Altima it rates high in safety but poor in reliability. Apparently they made some changes and since have dropped in some categories. BUT..if I could have found one that I really really liked and if we got a good deal I was still going to buy it.

Then we test drove the Nissan Maxima and I fell in love. It drives super super smooth. Has a lot of horse power 290HP, 6 cylinder, sunroof, bluetooth, etc etc and they were having a huge sale. We got it for $8,500 off. So weird that I can make a phone call from the steering wheel. The conversation comes over the stereo. They happened to have the color I wanted so I believe we got a very good deal.

The Nissan dealership here has unbelievable great service. No pressure at all plus their service department is open 7 days a week.

I will take a picture later and share.

It's going to take awhile for me to feel safe again. Hopefully once my neck heals I will feel better about this whole situation.
 
Wondering if my referral to see an otologist for a cochlear implant will show up in the mail this week. Crossing my fingers!!!

My hearing aid hasn't bit,I don't think. If I cover it I get feedback, so I know it's working. I haven't been able to hear anything with it in like 2 weeks though, not even myself talking. I've been having major feed back issues though. The mold I have I got in Febuary. A couple months ago the feedback was so bad!! I tried putting new tubes on it, my old mold that still fit fairly well, nothing worked so I finally put my mold (it's for my right ear) on my hearing fir my left ear, which I never use, that helped. At this point I don't think it's my aid, I think it's my ear. :(
