Watson the Computer on Jeopardy

Didn't say I knew everything, just saying if IBM can program a computer like Watson, then in the future it might be possible to program a computer so that it responds just as Dorothy does in 'The Jetsons', but at the same time program so that it doesn't feel the need to take over the human race. Basically you're giving it the personality of a subordinate or timid person. Haven't the Japanese already come up with a similar type of robot that can be used as a servant known as Asimov, I believe? I could be wrong on the Asimov though.

Only personality traits could be programmed. That is a small portion of the function of personality. Can't be done. Personality function requires the integration of different forms of knowledge and life experience.

But you could program a computer to respond aggressively to certain key words such as someone says 'fight' the computer throws beer bottles in all directions. OR respond very timidly such as when someone says 'ugly' the computer makes crying noises. LOL. It's not perfect but it gives it a touch of 'personality'. Yeah I've been watching way too many sci-fi movies lately.

There is a lot of literature, movies, discussions, etc, out there regarding "self-awareness." It is plausible that a computer, such as Watson, that is capable of combing through such literature and analyzing it abstractly would be able to make sense of the information and subscribe to it unless certain safeguards were put into place during the coding of the machine's programming.

Capable.

One factor that has been overlooked; the computer will win 99% of the time in the fastest thumb department. No way is there a human that can click the button as quickly as the computer.
