Does a eye for a eye just make the world blind?
 
Hmm it's tough actually. It's only fair to teach those who do things that are unfair. When they get a taste of their own medicine and don't like it, they MIGHT not do it again. So I guess it's only good for teaching purposes.
 
If this were true then a lot of people under Hammurabi were probably disfigured. Those who had violent crimes committed against them and those who were criminals. I once read that in a 'trial' to decide if the person were innocent of the crime they would burn their hand, if it healed within an allotted amount of time then they were found innocent, if not they were found guilty. Makes you think about what we should do with all of these people that sit on death row for years and years on taxpayer money.
