I think so cochlear implant to really headache not good. I know sometimes cause very rare mirgraine. I don't want to screw up life because I need to better health, I need to body liquid to advil sometimes weak is not enough strong better than way I need to more difficult to tyleno mix cause dangerous medication. That is not good. I opinion many of people having cochlear implant is very cause sick disease. I think so getting hard explain to you . I think so try better communication to you.....

I know there are studies showing that cochlear implant can cause migraine.

If you still have bad headache after no more cochlear implant, maybe the doctor could check if you have scar tissue from the implant left over that is pressing on nerves.

Can I see some of that research?

travis,

if you are continuing to experience migraines after your ci has been removed, i wonder if they weren't caused by something different? i would suggest that you see a neurologist. perhaps they can give you a ct scan to determine the cause of your migraines.

in my case, i have a 21 year history of migraines. my migraines did not increase or decrease after getting my ci's. they increased because i was temporarily taken off of a mood stabilizer (depakote) meant to treat my bipolar that is also designed to treat migraines. i'm now back on the depakote and both my psychiatrist and gp think this will help reduce my migraines. my psychiatrist also thinks that the anti-depressant he put me on (fluoxetine) will also help.

Really? I didn't know that! I hope that proves to be the case for you. :)

so do i!

the way my psychiatrist explained it to me, i experience extreme anger and irritability whenever i'm depressed or towards the end of a manic episode, so he feels that if the fluoxetine addresses the depression, it will also reduce my anger and irritability. that explanation makes perfect sense because if i experience less depression, that means i will experience less anger and irritability as well. <crossing fingers that it actually works>

ocean, i'd be curious to know what your opinion is of this. if you'd like to send me a pm, feel free. :)

Mostly I was trying to encourage Travis that a doctor could help him.

I have to agree. There could be either a cause directly related to the implant itself, whether scar tissue or something else, or it could be something else entirely unrelated to the CI implant/surgery. Travis should see a doctor and have tests done.

that doesn't count as research. faire_jour, charlotte and i asked you for research studies. would you mind providing them, please? i'd be interested in the data.

Botts never said she was quoting research. You need to be fair here. All she said was "If you still have bad headache after no more cochlear implant, maybe the doctor could check if you have scar tissue from the implant left over that is pressing on nerves." She was making a generalized statement, and then reinforced it later by suggesting a doctor could help him ...

alleycat,

please refer to the bolded text above. that is what i am referring to when i (as well as faire_jour and charlotte) asked bott to come up with research studies proving ci's cause migraines.

I had migraines with my hearing aids and stopped getting them with my cochlear implants. I haven't had a migraine since surgery July 2007.

Travis,

I am so sorry about your migraines. I hope your doctor has given you "quick" meds when you get a migraine. Also there are some very good daily meds to keep from getting a migraine. Be careful not to take too much over the counter medicine because of rebound headaches.

it looks as if bott isn't going to provide the studies we requested. that only leads me to conclude that she can't back up her statement.
