Exactly your correct on that, acutally you pay full SS taxes when you earn money as contractural or own business. But when you work under company, you pay half of SS taxes, and the employer pays another half of your SS taxes.

Wow, that makes this become a very deep discussion because the employer must consider this when deciding how much to pay you. So they pay you less money to account for the taxes and other costs they must pay such as medical insurance and workers compensation insurance and unemployment insurance.

Now if you have your own business, you can usually claim deductions you would not get to claim as an employee and thereby lower the income on which you pay tax. For instance, we can travel and claim our expenses as a business expense. Most employees can't do that!

I guess there is just good and bad to both sides that we must consider for ourselves. Life can be more flexible if you have your own business but then you can also find a flexible employer sometimes.

By the way, the Self Employment Tax is 15.3%. If you are employed, the employer pays half (7.65%).

Same here I joined the CDT.. I really enjoy be part of the Team!! You meet great people.. Yes I believe Shel got her Diamond as she sent me the picture of herself holding the card tells what the size of the diamond and the value of the diamond.. It comes in 4 or 5 different color.. Shel got blue/green color as I think it's beautiful color...
