Walgreens Employee Fired for Having Tattoos

Nah. But there is a correlation between the number of tattoos and an individual's propensity to other self harming behaviors.

That would make sense when I think about it. :hmm:

I had a cutter as a client. When she would feel like cutting and none of the other distractions were working, she would go get a tattoo. Didn't completely stop the behaviors, but reduced it to something much better than cutting. We are now working on slowing down the tattooing...but it's not like she goes out and gets a tattoo every week! Maybe a couple times a year.

Thanks. She really is doing much better. I first got her as a referral from the hospital after a suicide attempt. She still has some issues to deal with, but her self harm is reduced to a degree that I don't worry about things like that with her now.

I recall seeing a girl on TV doing the same things....Dunno if it was OCD or Intervention....

I don't mind tattoos unless someone tattoos his face. That looks freaky. Like having eyes on the eyelids so that the person always looks awake.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh...

I can't get the mental image of RECEIVING that tattoo out of my head. So painfully revolting.

Is getting a tattoo considered a "self-harming behavior"?

:hmm: Interesting. I think it is possible. And it can depend on the individual and what the tattoos depict.

Mike Tyson comes to mind, but he has tons of issues.

Since he was hired with the tattoos, it doesn't seem fair. However, work places have their own dress codes. I have some tattoos. When I worked for Disney and Universal, I could not work in any costume that would show them. Fair enough.

My personal feeling is, if you are going to go really radical and have tons of tattoos and piercings that show, bright purple hair or something, then I feel employers have the right to not hire someone. I've worked for some employers who could care less what your body looks like, as long as it didn't show. There are places where one can work if you choose to do that.

In this guy's case, they'd already hired him. Not sure if he'll win though.

As far as I know it doesn't say if he added more since he was hired. My question to you is what if he added more while employed? Are they to keep him on even tho he rejected attempts by company to cover them up while employed? The problem isn't that he had tattoos. The problem is that he refused to cover them up while working.

Doesn't seem like they should fire him, but I'm certain he was hired as an at-will employee, which means they have the right to fire him for any reason whatsoever, or no reason whatsoever. He hasn't got a chance at winning his case.
