Wal-Mart: We're not afraid to say Merry Christmas

forgieners have to get over to the fact that America is a christian country and it's not like we are forcing EVERYONE to be christians or catholics anyway...if you have other religion then thats fine but here in our country is christian soil so...I believe we do have the right to say Merry Christmas but it's just the same as greeting ppl "Happy Holidays" as well...

If you dont believe in Jesus or God and you have other religions then whats the point of telling them "Happy Holidays" when they dont even want to hear "Merry Christmas"?

Why, alot of forgieners with other religions even wanted the government to remove "In God We Trust" off our currency just cause they dont believe in God well HELLO! this is America and is will always be reviewed as a christian country so I'm sorry there's nothing much that they can do about it and just have to accept it.

SteelX is right..
I rather be in Europe . I would say Merry Christmas to everybody! Just get over it!

Like I said before, these stores are being silly. They remind me of immature children. Say "Merry Xmas, Happy Hanukkah (sorry if I spelled wrong), Happy Koran, Happy Holidays..." Who CARES? If people make a BIG fuss about how the stores greet customers, they need a life.

How is silly? I know that stores don't want to say "Merry Christmas" for some reason with other religions.

Being scarcastic...not literally silly, ya know? I just find this whole thing kinda silly. That's my opinion.:dunno:

Yes, we live in a majority christian nation, but NOT EVERYONE IS CHRISTIAN! There's a ton of other religions out there, that celebrate holidays near Christmas, like Diwali, Channakah, Winter Solistice etc. It's better to be neutral about holiday greetings so you don't offend anyone and so you're inclusive!

Thats right. I know not everyone is christian or catoholics and I dont have a problem with that but I do have a problem with others who dont have the same religion as we do and they whine and fuss over stupid adveristing or when employeers greet customers as they come in...Wal Mart HAPPENS to be an American retailer so its their rights of how to greet customers...heck if I was in a jewish country and they greet me "happy harruaka (sorry if it was spelled incorrectly) I still wouldnt care and just respect the fact that I was in a Jewish country so...it's just the culture and of course religion have to come with the culture also.

This is America. You cant expect all stores to greet customers with the proper religion settings.

It seems a little anal to boycott against a store using the term merry christmas. What's the problem people, it's just wishes to have a nice holiday -- religious or not it bears good intentions.

I always say Merry Christmas to my friends and family. I say Happy Holiday to Strangers bec I do not know their religious. It is right for me to say it.
I say Merry Christmas also to Christian friends and family and Happy Holidays and I am an atheist.

Not always...

Detroit has largest Arabian population (most of them are muslim and some are jewish). Most catholic are from west coast, northeast and even midwest, and mormon is from some part of Rocky Mountain, such as Utah and largest jewish are from LA area (some of them are Persian) and northeast area.

I know that largest population of Christians are from bible belt, such as Atlanta, Houston and region in southeast. It was different from other region, such as midwest, west coast and northeast. Christian isn't national religion in USA and there's no laws that would follow their culture but I had noticed about "God" on currency and pledge of USA except for west coast. I have little tolerate about currency.

Happy Holiday would be better word for greet them but most of stores aren't advertise as Merry Christmas.

According to this site, the words "In God We Trust" was not printed on our coins till 1954 as a result of a successful campaign by Knights of Columbus.

The Pledge was first written in 1897 by a Christian Socialist (some would say being a Christian and a Socialist is an oxymoron.) Francis Bellamy. The original words were as follows: "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." He considered including the word equality but realized that the powers that be in the educational system would never tolerate the idea of women and people of color being their equals.

In 1923 and 1924 under the influence of both American Legion and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR for short), the words "my flag" got changed to the Flag of the United States of America."

This doesn't mean that they will say "Merry Christmas" on ALL of their products.

I don't care what they do, as long as they don't go overboard. I've had people who say "Happy Hannukah!" to me, even though I'm not Jewish. I've had people say "Kawanza!" to me, even though I'm not African.

But, I don't care... because it's their religion and I respect that. If Walmart wants to sell some products that say "Merry Christmas", fine with me.

Pacman, sound like you're scrooge by now..
Why do you care complain and point finger against the stores..

I feel more spirit jolly merry Christmas.. anything they want to say..
That's fine by me then..
I recommend you get duct tape and tape your mouth shut!
No more hear whining! :D

Calling Pacman a whiner isn't going to change the fact that not everyone in the USA is a follower of Jesus. Being an American isn't an exclusive club reserved for Conservative Christians only.

So when someone says, "Happy Holidays", to which "holy" days are they referring?

Christmas. Kwanazaa. Chanukah. Who cares? Stop being so exclusive and realize not everyone has the same world view as you. I'm sure your rebuttal will include something about God and Jesus, and maybe a bible verse or two.
