My son moved twice and forget to update his address....so his W-2 forms were sent elsewhere.....I told him that actually, all he needs is his last pay stub....He tried to file at HR Block...but they told him they could not finalize it without the W-2 form....

:hmm:...Has the rule change this year>...or when?

Well, he went on line and got a copy...so that might do the trick....

Hopefully the w-2 forms didn't get into the wrong hands with the info on it.

Can he contact the employer and request a duplicate W-2 with the corrected address?

Or, wasn't the original W-2 sent back to the employer?

He no longer works for the company where he needs the W2 form....and yes, he did contact the former employer...they told him they just had mailed the forms out...so he will have to "wait" to see if the form is returned to them....:hmm:

But he just went online and got a "copy"...so that might suffix with HR Block....If not, then he'll just have to cool down and wait...seems he's expecting a "big refund" this year....:giggle:

But anyhow...he did "listen" about saving his check stubs...got them all in a box....but changing his address, nope!...Feel next year will be a better one for him.

It isn't new rule, so W-2 is required to prepare the tax properly.

I don't have to file the tax this year due to no job income.

When I last worked and made a profit, I had to file my taxes, and there's an agency here in Chicago that'll file my taxes for free electronically, and they go straight to the IRS and State Government, because I usually have the checks direct deposited, so that there isn't a hassle of the possibility of stolen checks via mail. That agency's name is the Chicago Hearing Society (CHS).

Oh wow, you are lucky and we don't have those service.

Many Deaf/HoH suburbanites go to that agency to fill out their taxes because it's free, and virtually painless. That, and the people doing the filing actually sign.

Isn't he getting mail addressed to the address forwarded to the new one?

Federal mail can't be forwarded...

Ahhhhhhh good to know

Wait, is your W-2s even federal mail? The government doesn't send them to you the business you worked for, or their payroll company does. I can see if you actually got your refund as a paper check in the mail that being a problem. That's be federal, but your W2s??

Its sent in a federal envelope.... I have moved a lot and had to get corrected W-2 emailed frequently. Once I just put a hold on my old address..... pain in the u know what!

I have heard of CHS. I have been there. I understand that they have limited # of times where they will file your taxes for free. I believe it was 3 days per year. Maybe I am wrong. Can you tell me?

Yes. It's in March. The 8th, 15th, and 22nd. Hope that helps.

Wait until march? Oh hell no. I just use turbo tax, it's easy, have the deducted from my return and have it automatically deposited. Since I have an account and an I return user I don't even have to fill out all the personal info, mine and my kids.

I hate H&R block, I'll never go there again, they hire morons,

Well doing my federal taxes used to be free, through my bank BB&T, I only had to pay like $30 to do states. But then I changed banks, so I have to pay for federal now. I like it though so I'm sticking with them.

There's a good reason for that. Next month, the Circuit Breaker software will be ready, and people will need to renew their Free Ride permits and all that, and there's a bunch of us who have permits expiring this year, myself included.

I use TurboTax too - good tax preparation.
