Use an umbrella when it is snowing?

Believe me , people DO NOT uses umbrellas in any snow storms in New England. I grew up here and none of elderly women neighbors used an umbrella when it snowed. People only use it for rain and they use beach
umbrellas when going to beach . People wear hats or put up the hood on their coat. Everyone know you can't use an umbrella is strong wind. I gave my umbrella to a homeless man , he was out the rain and I asked him if he wanted it .
And you've seen EVERY person out in the snow EVERY day & evening so you can prove this?

Just because YOU have not seen it, doesn't mean it isn't done.

I only use an umbrella, in rain, snow, etc, if I'm going to be standing, or sitting, in one spot for a while (like a bus stop). I wear coats/jackets w/hoods and hats.

umbrella? How you scrape snow or ice off your car during you hold the umbrella? Also snow don't always come from top, sometime come from side due wind.
Not everyone is driving a car in the snow. Some people walk or take a bus. Snow umbrella people are more likely urban people, I guess.

Also, If you forget to bring glove with you and just put both hands in your pocket. I can't image you hold the umbrella without the glove at cold temp.
Probably someone who would forget their gloves in the winter would also forget to bring an umbrella.

I keep a pair of gloves in the pockets of all my winter jackets/coats. I keep an umbrella in my car.

In the South, during the summer, people use umbrellas to shade themselves from the sun. I see them do that mostly in the Peninsula area (downtown Charleston) or on country roads. It's most common with older black women.

I also see Asian students at our local university using "sunbrellas". I think it's a good idea...but I don't even like to use them when it's raining. :P

The ones that made me think to ask this were standing outside of the Today Show watching it through the windows.

That's awful lot people forget to get their umbrella after long drive in the bus or cab due rush hour or too busy to talk on phone.

I have five winter jackets and I forget which jackets that they have gloves inside.

One winter with pant are very heavy duty which good for -20F, blowing snow, and diesel tech with ski goggles,

Another one for dirty as diesel tech/auto tech, repair car, repair outside of house, etc.

Another one normal winter jacket for public as shopping, walking with dogs, etc.

Another one fancy winter coat for visit family, friends, date at restaurant or house.

Another one winter coat for sport as snowboarding, ice skating, and maybe snowmobile.
