US Government says.........

Not anymore. Using Google Chrome now, and on my Asus tablet. Haven't used my laptop in nearly 5 weeks, and it's a good thing I stopped when I did.

Oh dear sweet lord...

What it looks like today:

This thing had too many problems to keep using it reliably. It was a security risk in some ways, being that it's an older version of Windows XP, and would have required a major overhaul.

Here's the thing-- it used to be a business laptop for Thresholds, until they donated them nearly 2 years ago. They had like 25 of these, and all of them were donated.

I am pressing my luck by doing this. *Press Your Luck theme song begins*

There are certain kinds of people who do not want to learn new web browsers, and prefer to stick with IE.
Then they are stuck now because IE is not safe. It's official. "The Government says."

I don't know why anyone would want to endanger their computers that way.

You can still use your laptop--just use a different browser. Or is there something else wrong with your laptop?

What is it we're supposed to see? These pictures are too blurry to make out.

OK--laptops are hardware. They can be set up with any browser. Browsers are not hardware. The IE browser (or any other browser) is not physically locked in to the laptop.

Oh yay we get to view the modeling of a laptop... that has NOTHING to do with a browser being compromised (see Reba's post above- no sense repeating what she said..) Actually it does bear repeating. A laptop is HARDWARE, a browser is SOFTWARE and an OPTION that you can use.

As for IE, much as I don't care for the browser, my last job we had to use IE because products/sites were attached & coded for IE- they started to include Firefox when I left so that's good. I also do not care for people (no not necessarily the people here, anywhere) bashing those who use IE. One of my relatives still uses it, she is an older relative and she is not THAT comfortable with technology- so she does not really use the PC all that much. I don't know how hard or easy it will be for me to switch her to Firefox or Chrome. One of my friend said she has tried to get her parents to switch from IE but they can't/don't. None of these three people are "stupid" or "certain kinds of people" (whatever the hell that means).

Maybe someday I can convince my relative to use another browser but out of habit I know she will click on the Big E anyway.

Microsoft is the one who deserves the 40 lashes of a wet noodle for not keeping up and providing proper security (and qualified individuals- I swear they must have monkeys doing the coding some days...).

so install linux then.... like Ubuntu

Or learn the difference between an operating system, a battery, and a browser.

The levels of computer illiteracy demonstrated by the OP are so mind-boggling that it deserves an infinite amount of face-palms and that I'm not gonna start on teaching him the basics. 'Tis sad.

Oh, and you can install EMET (Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit) 4.1 to further protect your computer.

Not quite sure. However, what I do know is that it needs a major upgrade.
