Hi everyone,

Since my Medicaid eligibility expired this month (I need to reapply), my appointment for further CI testing to determine the cause of my dizziness and nausea needs to be postponed until May or June.

My audi sent me an e-mail asking how I've been doing. She cc'd my CI surgeon as well. I said I'm feeling better, but experience dizziness and nausea whenever I turn my head from side to side.

My CI surgeon replied and suggested that I see the balance specialist at my CI center who can recommend specific exercises to deal with this problem.

My appointment with the balance specialist will be scheduled on the same day I have my CI testing.

I will continue to keep all of you posted.

Oh damn, i was looking forward to hear all about it.. it was suppose to be tomorrow wasn't it?

But AT LEAST you are okay for the moment thats something.
How's your bipolar problems getting on? PM me if you rather.

((( Hugs )))

Hope all is well with you.

my dh is having issues with balance too. sometimes it causes him to experience with dizziness and nausea. nope he hasn't seen a balance specialist yet. Keep us posted about it.

Hope balance specialist will be able to find what's going on with your dizziness that needs to go away.

Sorry to read that the dizziness is still there. I hope you will be able to manage it for another 1 to 2 months :(

Please keep us posted with any news...

Yes, my CI appointment was scheduled for tomorrow. If I can get my Medicaid eligibility renewed before the end of May, I will contact my audi to find out if I can see her before next month.

I'm doing really, really well in terms of my bipolar. My new meds are working great and my moods have been stable for 3 weeks. :D I'm seeing a new psychiatrist whose office is closer to my home and he's very pleased at my progress.

How long has your DH had balance problems and what is the cause of it?

I used to have balance problems before receiving my CIs, but it was caused by my blindness -- not my hearing.

However, as I continued to lose more hearing, my balance problems became worse.

:ty: Jamie! :)

If I'm careful about the way I move my head, I'm okay for the most part. I just need to remember not to move it quickly from side to side which is normally what happens when I'm outdoors listening to traffic or environmental sounds. Sometimes I end up turning my head quickly in response to what I'm hearing, so it isn't always easy to do.

good to hear, HA but..... what the heck is Balance Specialist?? How does one help you?

He did have dizziness, tinnius and nausea since he was a toddler. After He receives CI, just added the new problem is his balance. His dizziness and tinniuts are the SAME as before he got CI. He has seen plenty of doctors for years. He is adjusting to get use to those three problems that he has to deal with it everyday. =(

I d like to know more about your situation that i can tell him about your experiences. sometimes doctor did not know what to answer. i hope your doctor knows what dr can do for your dizziness and balance to go away. so i can learn from you.. i dont get it that you still get losing more hearing? i thought CI keeps the soundness the way it is? i may not familiar with CI that my dh doesnt share about it with me.

I see what you mean... though it might not be exactly the same, when my head is feeling dizzy and I move my head fast like you say... I have troubles focusing my eyes onto something... Especially from near distance to close...

That's very bothering...

I truly hope the doc will be able to help you with that stupid dizziness <wink>

I've never been able to see, but I can imagine how disconcerting that must be. :(

Thanks again for your good wishes! :)

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. When I talked about losing more hearing, I was referring to pre-CI. I'm now totally deaf without my CIs, so there is nothing more to lose. :)

The person I will be seeing regarding my balance issues is a specialist and from what my CI surgeon told me, has some exercises she can recommend to help reduce my dizziness. I have no idea what she has in mind, but I'm curious. I'm glad I was honest with my surgeon about this so that I can do something to address it. This is especially problematic for me at night when I toss and turn.

My CI surgeon said that the CI test I will have done will determine whether my dizziness is centralized or is located within the ear. I don't know what it means for dizziness to be centralized, but if it's located in my ears, that would make sense given the fact that I had progressive hearing loss since age 3.

I made a mistake. I'm seeing a balance therapist, but I guess you could call her a specialist since she does specialize in balance issues.

What a balance therapist does is provide exercises to help reduce dizziness. I'm not sure how this is done, but I'm guessing that it involves certain techniques or body movements to help cut down on the dizziness one experiences.

I was supposed to see her back in February, but since I no longer experienced any dizziness after 6 electrodes were turned off on each CI, I didn't think it was necessary.

I am aware you have never been able to see... <wink> I was just pointing something out where I feel the same way (at least I think it must feel the same way you do right now)...

Always here for you sweetie... <hug>
