WASHINGTON — Schwarzenegger for president in 2008?

No, he's not eligible. Born in Austria (search), he's barred by the Constitution. But that would change under an amendment introduced Wednesday by a fellow California Republican.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's proposal would allow anyone who's been a U.S. citizen for 20 years to run for the nation's highest office. That would include Arnold Schwarzenegger (search) — bodybuilder, movie star and now governor of California.

Schwarzenegger, who became a citizen in 1983, has said he supports amending the Constitution so foreign-born citizensher he might want to run, saying he's focused on governing California.

Rohrabacher said in an interview that Schwarzenegger was doing a great job as governor, but his real aim was to open up the presidential process.

"We've got some talented people who might be able to help our country and provide some much-needed leadership, and there's no reason if they've been a citizen for over 20 years to exclude them," he said.

sometimes change can be good...sometimes change isnt but why don't you just give Arnie "the terminator" a chance to try his role as President of the US? that would be a major change in history of letting someone else who wasn't even born an american citizen to run for President and he might do it successfully than some other american-born presidents. If he ever gets to run for it, there may be a very possible chance that in the future after Arnie, a female or black person may try to run for President first time in history also.

Just let go of the 250 or whatever year old constitution and the rest of its crap...it's not like we are breaking any laws, but at least we are only trying to make our country a better place and trying to be more fair to the people and all.

There are more "pervented" presidents other than Clinton and Kennedy.
Thomas Jefferson got several "bastards" with his slaves. So not the recent presidents but the first presidents have done wrongly in their marriages. Men in the Oval Office tend to abuse their fame and power.

I have noticed that presidents with law background fare better than those who have military background. Lincoln worked as a lawyer before he raced for president. He passed the empacation (oh my goodness, don't tell me I mispelt it. E something Proclamation.) Bush was an "AWOL"-y soldier and see what he has done for us...

Osama Bin Laden wouldn't have a chance. Why?

Because he wasn't born here. Arnold is a U.S. Citizen, but he wasn't born in the U.S.A.

Osama Bin Laden isn't a U.S. Citizen. You would have to live here for years, or more in order to be able to run for a government office which is what Arnold did. The same would apply to George W. Bush because if he was to live in Canada for years and then come here and after 4 years, if he try to run as a president, he won't be allowed to do so because he lived in a different country for a long period within the the last few years.

Arnold can't be the President because he is not American-born, but if the constitution is changed so that U.S. Citizens who are not born in America can run for president. There are even conservatives who support this idea.

Think about it, people come here for freedom and if they become U.S. Citizens, then they are Americans. No matter what, and they should be entitled to run for an office as long they are U.S. Citizens.
