You have to look at the subject with an open mind. I personally think it's impossible for us to be the only species in the universe. Also, it's part of the reason why I do not believe in a god of sorts. There is too much out there and to think that humans are oh-so-precious and that nothing could ever shatter our expectations, is arrogant and counter-productive to true enlightenment.
And you have a good point about those civilizations being much older than ours. Some people also think that the LHC at CERN will give us the ability to exploit wormholes to travel between other galaxies and timelines. It seems like the science-fiction stuff we've seen isn't really science-fiction when you look at the bigger picture.
If you re-read my post , you will already see I said the life is out there. But it may not be related to "I see a UFO once a week around the world" as much as you would think.
If you would like to talk about wormholes, we have never seen or detected one yet. Its all on paper, an idea, a theory. Its "what if". Lets say it really does exist. And you have the ability to go through it. You still need to determine your destination beforehand. Now there are billions of stars in our galaxy only. Lets make it simple and say there is same amount of planets. A billion planet. Not all of them habitats life. So you have got this enormous space and numbers to cover and research. You solved the problem of time/energy using a warm hole. And the way you imagine it, it takes you the exact point you want to go in the universe. You still need to know that point beforehand. All your assumptions are based on they already know where our solar system and planet is, since its such a special place
The problem is, unless they are very close to our solar system the number of planets they need to search before coming here is too great. Our planet started to transmit the signs of life couple hundred years ago after inventing artifical sources of light, radio and tv signals and etc.. This means if they are pointing their receivers to our way, they can catch the noise we are transmitting out in 150 light years radius. Any civilization out of this distance can not catch our noise , because it didnt travel those distances yet.
If there is a civilization one million light years away from us , they will detect our signals after a million year from today because this signal noise we produce does not use warmhole to travel. Once they got it we probably will be long gone.
Once again all these assumptions are based on there is a civilization close enough, they hold the technology to discover our location , and travel here and also they are willing to do that. It would be very possible they already visited ten other planets before us and they just decide not bother coming here.
Maybe there is a civilization out there met all the conditions and really came here. Do you think they now make weekly visits, since we see an UFO every week at one part of Earth? And they do it all with those junk metal vehicles that even our spy planes look better built compared to those videos?
As a conclusion, what is out there in the universe and validity of weekly UFO videos are separate issues.
