legislators need to start criminalizing "Road Rage" as a felony.
PLAINSBORO – A township man who allegedly tailgated and threatened another motorist during a road rage incident last night was arrested after he followed his victim into the parking lot of police headquarters, authorities said.
William J. Enoch, 32, was intoxicated and tried to pass himself off as a county corrections officers despite having resigned from the post a year earlier, police said.
Shortly before 9 p.m., Enoch allegedly began tailgating a township resident on Dey Road, continuing for several miles while continually flashing his high beams. Enoch also got out of his car at a red light and violently banged his hand on the victim’s vehicle while threatening to kill him, police said.
The victim, who was not identified, called 911 and drove to the township complex, where police officers came out and saw Enoch banging on the victim’s vehicle and yelling at him to get out of the car.
When officers ordered Enoch back to his own car, he said he was a law enforcement officer, police said. When asked for identification, Enoch pulled out a Middlesex County Department of Corrections badge, but the officers found he was no longer with the agency.
Enoch confirmed that he had been tailgating and flashing his lights at the victim, but said it was the victim who had initially tailgated him before he had pulled over and let the victim pass.
Officers smelled alcohol on Enoch’s breath and determined he was under the influence, police said.
Enoch was arrested and charged with terroristic threats, impersonating a law enforcement officer, hindering apprehension and driving while intoxicated.
He received nine motor vehicle summonses: driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, reckless driving, careless driving, improper use of high beams, leaving vehicle with the engine running, improper passing, tailgating, and failure to inspect.
He was released on $10,000 bail pending a future court date.
