Can one use VRS to call 911?

I hope they will. Not only VRS but IP Relay Services via pagers like that.

I don't use TDDs anymore .. they're relics already, lol.

I even had my telephone service cut off that save me $40 mo. I won't pay for it in case if I need 911 .. never had to use it. If that happens I do have an office just a very short distance from where I live that will do in case.

It would be much easier if they do. I have heard that they do plan and work on it underway.

In fact, TTY itself has started revolution with communication between deafies and hearies. If had not for TTY we might still be way behind with technology. So, I gave two thumbs for TTY invention! Time has come, nothing lasts forever. I wouldn't be surprise there will be end for VRS, but when, I dunno?

Say maybe it will be hologram relay services the next. Have it a portable capability the better.

I am still using TTY for my family cause my family are all hearing so I am using when my family are not online on the comptuer. and some of in my family dont have computer so I had to use tty. and also need to call at work to make let them that will have appt with doctor, denist, sick , etc and some more need to use TTY.

Exactly! We can't predict anything as of yet. 10 years ago, I never thought of VRS! I am not surprised that I am not the only one.

Say maybe it will be hologram relay services the next. Have it a portable capability the better.

I am not saying that TTY will die instantly. It is just fading away. Some people like you still using them BUT they are shrinking at faster rate right now.

Ok, since we can't reach 911 except from the phone/TTY, why would any deafie cancel the phone service? "It can't happen to me" at play here??

U don't get it, more and more deafies got SK, and other PDA device. Using them to call 911 is sufficient to send cops within 3 yards of exact location of that device. Deafies don't need to say anything at all! They got tracking to let them figure out where the device are. Plus more and more device have built in GPS which enable these 911 dispatcher locate you.
I once call 911 using my disconnected phone service, and did it work? Hell yea! Got fire department here within 4 minutes. I had emergency with Carbon monoxide.
Whats more, more and more TTY manufacturer gave up making TTY! Soon, they will be gone and there won't be any more. Will it happen? Trust me, they WILL happen anytime soon! TTY manufacturer no longer can afford survive the business where there is over 99% loss of TTY sales in the past 5 years! No way TTY manufacturer can survive any longer.

I understand and I do have soft dial tone even though I don't have service from phone company.

I tried that before. There is no "soft dial tone" where I live.
