Unlike most people I am still using a TTY. VP hasn't quite caught on with me yet, mostly because...well I don't have a good reason. Anyway, my TTY has stopped working. I have hearing people around regularly and they can't make calls because whenever you pick up the handset to make a call it just squeels at them and they get feedback. Even when it is in telephone mode. I have the Ultratec Uniphone 1140. I have un plugged it, plugged back in, tried everything. I can't seem to use VCO either, not that do anyway but it doesn't work. It all worked before about 2 weeks ago. Any ideas!?!?! PLEASE!?!?!

Time to move on to online relay. ;)

You can always order a new one or beg for a free used one from someone else.

I stopped using my TTY 8 years ago.

JennyB,

Here's the manual for the Ultratec Uniphone 1140:

http://www.abouttty.com/305-003905.pdf

The very end of the manual (in the "Troubleshooting" section) describes how to reset the TTY.

Hope this helps! :)

P.S. If you still can't get it to work, Vampy's idea of using Internet relay is a good one. Otherwise, does your state have a telephone assistance program? If so, you could receive a free TTY through this program.

Internet relay- wonderful suggestion but I am stuck in the dark ages...AKA Canada. TTY, or VP, are my options!

I just tried resetting...no such luck. Thanks though! I guess I will make a trip to the accessible devices store tomorrow...

If have PC, you probably would need to have an program similar called terminal and turn into ASCII mode that way you would able to use it as TTY.

I did that long time ago. But my brain is blur what exactly I did. ehhh... Sorry!

What you do, is go up to the top of the highest building you can find and....

i broke, cracked, kicked, stomped, and pounded on TTY in few years ago because i started using online relay, then VP.. what a marvelous to use VP than TTY. IF there is technologies breaks down, we can still always do: write letters as old fashion.

Do you use DSL for your computer? If so, you should get the DSL phone filter to protect your phone equipments - i think.... i want to show you what it looks like (see below) that should work on your TTY phones....I hope this one helps you?

I am former Bellsouth FastAccess DSL & TTY users,

If you are DSL users.. you can plug "DSL/ HPNA" for your DSL modem and your TTY with direct connect to plug in "PHONE" or if you have TTY without direct connect with acoustic coupler with telephone receiver to "PHONE" or your computer has equipped voice/Dial-up modem with TTY software to plug to "phone"

DSL filter help to prevent lost high speed internet connection while the phone rings. if you don't put DSLfilter the high speed internet will lost it's connection for short time while the phone rings. If your DSL filter installed and the high speed internet will stay connect while the phone rings.
