Trees Killed for Space shuttle :(

I think is horrible, killing living trees so hunk of metal can be driven down a street.

Today, I saw Space Shuttle piggyback on 747 today during my work. I saw one guy taking picture in the sky, I was curious and checked it out. I said, "oh, shit!" and then I struggled to get my HTC out of my pocket, but I was too late. :( But amazing to see it.

Yeah, I know about trees. They are going to replace it once shuttle pass that area. It's not like we wiped million arces of trees.

400 healthy trees were killed so a stupid space ship could fit in a road. What a waste of good money. The state of California is not doing that great and they throw away money to kill 400 trees . And there been a lack of rain so the new trees may not made it unless they get watered a lot. I think people have their
priorities backward some time. Killing living things for a hunk of metal is nut.

See my last sentence.... You should be complaining about all forest burning down for a ROAD in South America. They killed millions and millions for trees. And you're complaining about 400 trees that can be replaced.

just fly it in with a choppa...

Don't count on it. Trees take years to grow. Know of any types that grow in a week? They clean the air and benefit the environment in more ways than the average lay person can even begin to imagine. Given the pollution in CA, destroying the environment even further by removing scores of trees is the last thing they should be doing.

Did you read that I felt it was a waste of good money??

I like this specific line -

From Los Angeles Airport to Exposition Park, 268 trees will be removed for the transportation of the 768-foot wide space ship.
"None of the trees eliminated will be heritage trees or native trees." said Rudolph

He said that the tree will be re-planted within 120 days of elimination.

Local citizens say that this action is not good enough and is ultimately detrimental to the environment. Resident Kevin Brown told the council that if NASA can land a rover on Mars, then there must be a way to move the shuttle without cutting down trees.

"Leimart Park is a national treasure," Brown said. "I'm all for the science, but there has to be a better way."

 You guys are overreacted.

It made me laugh when "resident Kevin Brown" called that park "national treasure."

You should go north states and you will see lot of naive trees are being cut down, so we make papers, toliet papers, cardboards, and many other craps from it. I don't see you crying about it.

but the trees we cut down for papers, toilet papers, cardboards, and many other crap are done in a controlled manner in a specific place.

For example - a large patch of Forest A in Maine is scheduled to be cut down in 2012 and then it will be replanted so that companies can cut it down again in probably 5+ years later. and then next year, they go to Forest B.... Forest C next next year... Forest D next next next year.... and then back to Forest A. It's sort of like a "recyclable" paper

But in this case.... they are not overreacting. it's a bunch of heritage trees that have been there for many many years and generations after generations. but once it's gone, it's permanently gone and it will be replaced by different tree. this would be very sad to me to let them destroy heritage trees.

OMG, they're just trees...you damn tree huggin' hippies. Trees killed hundreds of people..guess they're more important than humans. :dunno: Even small branch can kill you.

Just last month, 6 yr old girl lost her life next county from my county b/c she was lookin for her older brother... in her grandma's backyard, huge oak tree fell on the little girl killin her instantly...the tree was rodden at the bottom of the base...it was shockin b/c the tree handled violent storms last several yrs...family had no idea.. just yesterday, I cut down 3 young trees...got a pruhblim? Elm trees are ugly...or course I will burn the wood.

Im totally blown away! whine about wastin taxes and killin live trees...please go find something better to do. :D

DeafTim. Don't you dare talk about bad trees. First of all, the family or someone who owns the property where they did not take good care of the trees when they should look at the problem and fix them. The only problem is that it cost a lot of money to have someone cut down one tree like an Oak or Elm tree. The person who owns the tree on his or her property just could not afford to hire someone to cut down the tree.

We are talking about heritage trees that have been there for many, many years like the Redwood trees up in Northern California. Heritage trees are very important to the forests. So that is what they are talking about. I agree with Jiro. You just can not cut down heritage trees like that just to get a place for the Space Shuttle Bus to land in.

This is a total different thing than to talk about trees on the home property. Far from it.

No,no,no,no,no....The parents had no idea that the large oak tree was rotten..even the cops could see why.

I watched the news and a lot of the trees werent very tall.
