I have to create a thread for transgender supporters.

Do you have any idea about make school safe for transgender students?

There is example about state of Massachusetts is doing to make school safe for transgender students.
Mass. Department of Education Issues Directive On Trans Students | Advocate.com

Many gay/lesbian organization, especially HRC representing the transgender people.

Note: If you are insensitive to transgender people - this thread isn't place for you to discuss. :ty:

One thing I of, is Unisex bathrooms. Sometimes I see them in certain smaller or progressive businesses but it would be great to routinely have them available in schools and in general.

I like the unisex bathroom idea. It allows the person to feel safe without having to deal with the discrimination. When I worked at Target I always went to the unisex bathroom, even though I'm not transgender I still support the idea of unisex bathrooms.

Doesn't using the unisex bathroom bother customers who really need it?

Never seen a Unisex bathroom....even if I did, don't believe I'd use it. Same as for the handicap bathroom stalls....

They're quite common. I remember partying at Berkeley and in pops some chicks. Bathrooms are coed. It was actually pretty laid back and there was no perversity going on. Pretty cool.

Then consider that Austin's got Hippie Hollow and several other nudist colonies around here.

It's just not all that uncommon. Also... unisex bathrooms are also called "family bathrooms". They're everywhere.

Honestly... they're just bathrooms... a place to do your business.

Discrimination? In the bathroom? I'm pretty sure the toilets flush for everyone.

Yup, just other word for family bathroom - safe place for transgender people.

Some transgender people suffered from harassment and discrimination in public, separate gender bathroom.

Lots of people suffer "harassment" in public bathrooms. See: swirly

That's not what I was talking.

My point is strictly about transgender people and I know some of them got beat up in public bathroom anywhere, not limited to school, really ANYWHERE.

And my point is.....a lot of people get beat up. That is just a part of life. Maybe they should try a bathroom monitor.... :hmm:

Transgender people are in much risk category and they are more likely to get serious injury than non-transgender person, and some transgender people commit suicide after they can't get help or escape from hostile environment.

I'm not interested about classic, old fashioned harassment that where 2 boys harassing at nerd boy with big glasses in the restroom, those are not related to gender situation.

FYI, I use family restroom or private bathroom as possible because of my anxiety issue and not comfortable with public restroom.

A transgendered person is "more likely" to get a serious injury? More likely than a "nerd boy with big glasses?" That doesn't sound accurate to me.

BTW, "nerds" have been known to commit suicide from bullying as well. I'm the gamer thread people are saying bullying played a bigger part in Columbine than video games did. So it would appear that bullying is pretty bad all the way around.

You still don't get it - when I was high school student and I already saw some incidents in the restroom, also the police officers and the ambulance involved, so turned out to be related to transgender situation, also we had sizable of transgender students.

That's very small numbers of non-GLBT students committed suicide because of bullying, but GLBT students are more bigger and more risk, based on my experience and I actively involve in GLBT community since got in high school.

My thread is discussing about safety for transgender students, so I'm not interested to see about non-transgender topic, so take it out of my thread, please.

That's cool. We can move on if you wish, but I think your claims are questionable at best. Bullying has occurred for a long time. Injuries and worse, due to bullying, have occurred for a long time.

Question is, why should such a tiny fraction of the population (transgendered) receive special treatment while others are still being bullied? What is the best and fairest solution for everyone? I say bathroom monitors.

I don't know about that. Here's what I remember about the bathroom monitor from my time. Nobody could take a swirly better than him.

The gender-neutral housing is good safe place for transgender students, also gay students as well. I support those case and when I was Gally student, I discussed with Rainbow Society about persuade Gally to adopt the gender-neutral housing, but it will not work in few dorms - Peet Hall because of only one community bathroom in one floor, also I heard about this dorm will be demolished in 2016 after new MSSD dorm complete to built (North Ballard will vacated as MSSD boys move back to new dorm on MSSD campus) and other one - Ballard (West/North) because one bathroom in one wing and one in other wing that require to cross the public area.

Few universities in my state is consider about those plan too, no issue for all dorms at UAB because none of UAB dorms have community bathroom anymore, just all private bathroom that annexed to each room.

Very very few Grade Schools and High Schools have housing.
