I am a Sign Language Studies major and will be finishing up my schooling next year. I currently live in Michigan but am wanting to move, preferably a little bit south since Michigan weathers are horrible! I don't want to move to Texas or California, nothing too South or West. Anyways, I am looking for a city with a good Deaf population since I am looking to work with the Deaf Community.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Here is a thread where this topic was just discussed.

Washington DC and Rochester NY are best, but both still cold.

Thanks Bottesini. I already checked out the thread, but like you said Rochester and Washinton DC are both pretty cold still. That's why I posted this to see if anyone has heard of other Deaf communities a lil bit further South.

It would be helpful what you are looking in a state/city/town. For example; nightclubbing, country music, church, sport and stuff like that.

Too many people have made mistakes moving to a new state/city/town without researching more on the places they are interested in.

How far south from Michigan are you looking to move to?

That's good point. I always research before I move anywhere.

I have been told that Ohio is good...it's still kind of cold in the winter...but probably not like Michigan or any of the other states further north. I am looking into the Columbus area as a possibility when I get through school. I live in Kentucky, and with a few exceptions...Kentucky hasn't proved to be very deaf friendly. I've met some folks here in the Morehead Kentucky area who are wonderful...but so far, aside from those few wonderful people, it's not exactly eager beaver to give Deafies an equal opportunity for employment.
