Since there's not enough evidences or reasons why the father isn't there, should we keep on jumping to conclusions here?...
EXACTLY!!!! We shouldn't be jumping to conclusions regarding the mother either. My point is, WE DON'T KNOW!

Isnt it interesting how some of us are willing to bash the mothers without knowing more while others are willing to bash the father? I think the best thing for all of us to express our gratefullness that the child is safe and just wait and see for more facts on the parents.
I couldn't agree more.

I'm with you on that, I wasn't really trying to bash the mother here, but if I did, then I aplogize for that.... :-x

She's been living there for 6 months, her apartment is already filthy with human wastes and the child was eating the spaghetti off the floor. It sounds to me that she didn't bother to clean up or she just plain laziness or she's depressed. I had a friend who has 3 kids, she used to be a clean and neat freak and all of sudden few months later, her apartment was in filth. I was in shock. I couldn't walk thru the floor. She was in deeply in depression. The landlord called CPS to get the kids. It was so sad. She died a year later of cancer and that's why she's depressed. I didn't know she had cancer at the time until I saw her name on the newspaper.

All I can wait and see what the mother has to say about. And what the judge has to say to her.

One of my friend who used to live in my neighbor, she mention to me one time that she left her son to her sister's house. Since her sister said she would babysit for a few hours while she get some things done. Her sister feel asleep on the couch and the son happen to walk out the door, he was only 3 and ended up on the highway. "Yes, I was like OMG are you serious!" So, the mother was driving back to pick her son up, she noticed a bunch of police officers out on the highway and saw the kid, she thought to herself, well that "looks" like my son which happen to be her son! She pulled over the side of the road, to get her son... She asked where was her sister, she as upset and everything. The police was up in her in her rear end big time. So the police followed her to her sister's house, as soon as they pulled up, she was down asleep so they had to wake her up. She jumped up quickly and asked if her nephew was okay. Blah blah! Otherwise, the police was climbing her butt also.. But like the police said its the mother's fault, you have to be sure to trust the person 100% before you leave your kid with sombody. Even if it's your family member. You never know. He couldve been killed but lucky sombody called about it. Sister was drunk and high.. as she tells me. Remember always trust sombody 100% before you leave your kids with the person.

A woman in the US city of Indianapolis has been charged with neglect after prosecutors said she allowed her three-year-old son to wander away from home and play along a busy interstate highway.

Stunned motorists found Damon Dyer barefoot and wearing only a nappy and T-shirt early on Saturday while his mother slept in a nearby apartment in the city's west side.

Police said at least half a dozen cars and a semitrailer swerved into other lanes on Interstate 465 to avoid the child, who was not hurt.

Drivers pulled over and took care of him until officers arrived.

Nancy Dyer, 30, was charged with four counts of felony neglect.

"A couple of the charges are related to the condition of the home and another child that was still in the apartment," said Helen Marchal, a deputy Marion County prosecutor.

Damon and his two-year-old sister have been taken into protective custody.

Investigators said the boy left the second-story apartment on Saturday morning and walked down the stairs, around a fence and onto the highway about 180 metres away.

Dyer told police that she had recently moved to Indiana from Florida and said the apartment was messy because she had not finished unpacking.

Dyer was scheduled to appear tomorrow for an initial hearing in Marion Superior Court.

She was being held at the county jail tonight after a judge set bail at $US3,500 ($A4,430).

That is wrong! People need to watch their kids carefully! This happen in my town a few months ago, we live close by the River! The grandparents were watching two boys who were at the age 1 and 2 years old. Grandparents left the door unlocked, so while they were in another room, the boys walked right out the door without anybody knowing it. Before the grandparents knew, the searched everywhere for the boys and never could find them. FBI team and everything you can think of was out searching for the boys, At first they thought maybe it was kidnapping. WRONG! Then they finially found the boys, they drowned in the river. It was all over the news. May the boys rest in peace!

PARENTS SHOULD ALWAYS KEEP A EYE OUT ON THE KIDS ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!

Most parents do their best to always keep their eyes on the kids but sometimes, things distract them like a phone, someone answering the door, dinner burning, and so much more.

I dont think the mother let them play on the freeway. According to the report, they were all sleeping and the child woke up and got out. Maybe she doesnt have any relatives in the area. We really do not know the full story.

My only problem with this situation is that there seems to be no child proof lock or a special deadbolt but just wait and watch for any follow up news.

In Australia, from time to time some toddlers vanished at nights, or disappear at camping, and parents didn't realised until much later, and the police and volunteers search for the missing kid and most of them are found safe and ok, and return to their parents, and sometimes interview with TV reporters to share their news and, seeing them crying with joy for their miracles, etc, unlike some countries to press charged against the parents for "neglected their kids".

Freeway is dangerous to live nearby, I am glad to know this US toddler found safe which matters the most.

Ouch .. I hope Mom gets help pretty soon. Because she is a young single naive mom who is very exhausted, just moved there etc etc., I am sure DA and her lawyer will work that out for her. Even if Mom and dad are no longer together, it is sad that father is not around to help her out with the kids. Most important the toddler is safe and sound.
