Ok good. I would be worried about it if I wanted to get another federal job which requires no criminal history.

Wow, WTG Matt, glad to know that you helped your friend out. Write that also for the thread of Random Kindness! Why do you love sign language? You should look into ASL classes and explore careers that use ASL a lot, like social worker, or whatever. Do not have to be an interpreter only.

I did it as a friend, just like the Spanish people had a friend there to interpret for them. I know being deaf is different than not learning the native language of the country that you want to live in, and the laws regarding interpreters are probally different. But another deaf person went to court, she had a friends mother interpret for her...and this was for criminal court.

Another thing you may need to think about: Don't get too involved into her personal situation. Let me tell you an example:

I had my own mom interpreting for me when I was giving a birth to my first son, and I didn't like it because maybe she made some decisions and told the doctor what she made without letting me know what the doctor said. That's too personal and I don't appreciate that. Maybe she didn't do it, but I don't know because I can't hear what they're talking about. Feel me? I prefer a certified/professional interpreter to interpret this kind of situation so that way I know the interpreter isn't making the decision, since the interpreter is not related to me, like my mom is. Do I make any sense here?

Just a thought to share with you before your situation gets too deep.

I wouldn't have done that. I know I had to explain to her what would happen if she plead guilty or not guilty, and that if she plead guilty, and put the plate back on the car, then they would drop the ticket, and all she has to do is pay court costs.

OK... :) Just want you to know some risks in there. :) I just don't want you to lose her trust in the future. :) Keep your chin up and do what you can! :thumb:
