I interpreted for a friend in court. I mean, it was for a friend. I went to see her at 6:15pm and she showed me a ticket that she got that she hadn't paid for yet. The court date was for tonite at 7:00pm. So, we went to the municiple court. Since she complied with the ticked (ticket was because her front plate was missing on her car), she got off on $25 court costs instead of $75 ticket.

I wasn't a good interpreter. I didn't interpret word for word. She was saying the wrong answer. She wanted to plead not guilty. I told her that if she did, then she would have to come back, but if she pleaded guilty, then they would let her go because she complied. That is when she understood and plead guilty. LOL.

I felt good helping her today. Made my day. I had fun doing it. :D

SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO PLEAD GUILTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone who plead guilty got the ticket dismissed. If she didn't plea guilty, then she would have to go back to court and stuff.

If you plead guilty then you'd need a lawyer.

Yeah, but she could have won her case... It would have gone either way...

I guess she didnt' want to waste any of their or her time so she figured it was best to plead guilty and get off on a cheaper ticket. Best thing to do is not do anything to get a ticket in the first place anyhow...

IF she pleaded NOT guilty, then she would need a lawyer and go to court again. She plead guilty, they ask if she put the lic plate back on the car, she said YES, and they said dismissed, court costs only. Everything was dropped. No record.

That is ok Kevbo. She was going to pay the $75 ticket. She was real happy that I brought her to the court to fight it.

How's your first-time interpreting at the court?
It was cool. Freebie for a friend. I am not an interpreter. I didn't want to see her license get suspended.

She won't get suspended for not putting a plate license on her car.

No, but if she didn't pay a ticket or go to court for the ticket, then she would. That is how it works in RI. I know this cuz the police dept I work for gives out tickets. LOL

Thank you. I really need to go to signing classes. I am terrible :(

Obviously you did well enough, and I doubt she'd have called you if she didn't think you could do the job. :D classes are great if you get the right teacher, but I think I read somewhere that 2 of your closes friends are deaf? And if that's the case, then you've got the best kind of education going for you. I will swear that the best way to learn a language is to be submersed into it. At this point, probably all you could need is sentence structure for a professional setting, right?

LOL She didn't call me. I just was happening to visit her and she told me about the ticket and told me that court was today. I was like "Shit, you gotta go girl! I'll do my best interpreting for you"
