3 members of U.S. military stop Islamist attacker on train in Belgium


(CNN)A massacre on a high-speed train in Belgium was prevented Friday when two members of the U.S. military in civilian clothing surprised an Islamist militant, authorities said.

The suspect was loading his automatic Kalashnikov rifle in a toilet, apparently preparing to attack, when the service members confronted him, said a European counterterrorism official.

The gunman fired on them with a handgun, the official said, wounding at least one. Three people were injured aboard the Thalys train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris, authorities said.

The service members overpowered the suspect, who was placed under arrest when the train was rerouted to the French town of Arras, about 115 miles (185 kilometers) north of Paris.

A U.S. military member was wounded, a Pentagon official said….

After seeing the story on CNN, I'm so proud of our servicemen preventing what was what planned by the shooter to be a massive shooting attack.
 
Thank God they were there..Two or was it three very brave men who deserve all the thanks those countries can give them and more
 
Very brave and honored that they are American servicemen.
 
I feel honoured service men did job it happened they were American,i would like think Brit would do it but they proberly been court marshalled

Just glad that we were able to help in another country. We have had a bad rep for intervening in other countries' affairs.
 
There elderly british man who also helped they all been awarded bravery medal today...If this been UK there been about two years of inquiry maybe court marshal unlikely to have got bravery medal..thank goodness it France I gather he not been charged yet takes 72 hours
 
EURO STAR closed today so many illegals on it the say many would been IS frighting

I would change the heading on my thread, if I could, but it seems that my editing function has timed out.

I'm glad to see that France has honored the three Americans and the British passenger, and will be honoring the French passenger.

It's good to see people take the initiative to do something rather than depending on the government to take care of them. The government supposedly had this guy on their radar but didn't stop his attack.

One of the American soldiers is from Roseburg, Oregon, the town we have been going to visit relatives for the past 25 years...town population of about 21K....they are really proud of him...
