I am currently in the market to get a BlackJack. I have been using a flipphone, as I am hard of hearing/deaf, but I still have many ambiguities when talking to people on the phone.. I am in graduate school in Deaf education, so my group of relations with Deaf people is growing larger every day. I need to have a PDA and have a phone that will allow me to talk to hearing people as well...

What are your thoughts on the BlackJack from Cingular? Is there anything better from Cingular that you would recommend? and why?

Blackjack is a very good Windows Mobile SmartPhone. It comes with Pocket MSN, so you can do instant messenging with others who use MSN Messenger or Live Messenger. Plus, you get Pocket version of Microsoft Office, like Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Pocket PowerPoint (can't creat but view slideshows), and Pocket Outlook.

I personally think there are better qwerty phones out there. Can you give us a list of what's important to you? Pick your top 5 most important things from the list below and put them in order of most important to least important.

Monthly service price (and what kind of service you need, like 300 minutes of voice, unlimited data, unlimited SMS, etc)
Cost of the phone itself (cheaper with long term contracts like a 2-year contract)
Big qwerty keyboard, easy to type on
Big screen to read
Long battery life between recharges
Email
SMS
Web browsing
Clear phone service
Coverage / reliable phone and data service everywhere you go
Good customer service
Cheap warranty/insurance
Free/cheap downloadable programs
Instant Messaging (specify AIM/Yahoo/MSN/Google/etc)

Either list them all in order, or pick your top 5 so we know what's most important to you so we can recommend something better than the Blackjack.

I'd rather you put your 5 bucks towards getting your dream phone, man! The LG enV from Verizon SUCKS.

The biggest qwerty keyboards are the Sidekicks, PPCs, and Nokia E62. Medium sized keyboards are Blackberry, Blackjack, and Q.

Monthly service -- Sidekick, PPC, and Blackberry are all unlimited data at $29.99. Voice plan, well, I'm only most familiar with Sprint as they're what I have, and the last I checked it was 200-300 minutes plus unlimited data for around $45 for the PPC or Blackberry.

I'm going to answer the rest tomorrow.

thanks for the reply. ive played with the E62 in the store...i really love the look and function...however there is one huge drawback that im not sure i can overcome...the long load time between applications. i may be exagerating it in my mind, but it seems like it took forever to switch betweena applications, i feel on the go this would become a huge hinderance. add to this no unlimited text(cingular), which even tho im hearing, is my primary method of communicating. i have 2k text now for 20 bucks a month, but using IM on a phone uses text, i shoot to 11-14k text a month with IM on, and that makes for a hefty phone bill.

ive been dreading it, but i feel blackberry is going to be the only realistic option for me.

my thoughts so far

THis seems like neat technology...

I would be using text messaging (number 1)
email (#2)
limited voice to call my hearing folks and friends not using text or email mobile (#3)

#4: Instant messaging (MSN #1)
HOw does the TTY play into the mobile part..I'm confused about that...

and I played with the BlackJack in the store and I can't hear on it..too much of that buzz and interference... so I am trying to use the bluetooth...
Dad seems to think that will work better if I use bluetooth with the phone...

Any suggestions about this so far? Would the Sidekick be a better bet??? Let me know...
I already have a Cingular plan and I would just be making the transitiion to a blackjack but I want to be able to communicate fully with no restrictions, so your input would be greatly appreciated!

My service provider is Suncom.

Which model do you recommend?

Big qwerty keyboard, easy to type on-- I have a poor eyesight meaning having hard time read small letter would like to see it bigger on the keyboard.

Long battery life between recharges-- would like to see that would last 2 days worth

Clear phone service-- would be able to hear better and louder volume

Coverage / reliable phone and data service everywhere you go-- would like to see some area where there is a poor signal and be able to use it without finding a strong coverage

Free/cheap downloadable programs-- would like to see more themes or pix for my blackberry. I have it just limit. I want to put the pix of horses on it instead of something else.

Hello all,

I just went to a Cingular store 2 days ago. I looked at the Blackjack. It was very small. The Qwerty board was very small. It was hard to type on that thing. I wasn't quite impressed.

Right now, I have the T-Mobile sidekick. I have not been happy with their customer service and I feel that it is time for me to change pagers. Try to get something new.

I have been eyeing the Cingular 8125 and the 8525.

The top five functions that I would like to have is…

Emails (Big Qwerty board)
AIM
Camera
Games (Blackjack, poker, etc…)
Good coverage
30-40 dollars per month

I guess that’s 6 things that I am looking for. Smile…

Yeah E19 Noika, Moto Q, Blackjack are BLACKBERRY KILLERS!
